2012 Introduction to Qionglong Mountain Scenic Area on December 7
Qionglong Mountain is located on the east bank of Taihu Lake in Suzhou. Its main peak is Ruomao Peak, with an altitude of 341.7 meters. It is the highest and largest mountain in Suzhou. The winding road leads directly to the mountain, which is covered with forests. Suzhou locals regard it as a natural oxygen bar. Ancient celebrities such as Sun Wu left their footprints here, and most of the scenic spots on the mountain revolve around these celebrities.
You can drive into the scenic spot by yourself, but in addition to the 80 yuan ticket, you have to pay an additional 50 yuan for the fare. It is recommended to walk up the mountain. After all, in such a good environment, mountaineering should take a deep breath. The main entrance of the scenic spot is at the northeast foot of Qionglong Mountain. There is a parking lot at the entrance, and it costs 5 yuan to park a car. Passing by the entrance of the Yuhu Lake, which was named after Qianlong landed here, we saw the first scenic spot beside the Yuhu Lake, the man-made small waterfall Danquan, and the Qianlong Imperial Road hiking trail that Qianlong walked.
We pass through small attractions such as Tiezhu Pavilion, Cixiao Pavilion, Shuangxi Spring, Tutu Temple, the original Shanmen Cave of Shangzhen Temple, and arrive at Shangzhen Temple, the first major scenic spot on the mountain. It takes about 1-1 climb. 2 hours. Shangzhen Temple is a Taoist temple that was first built in the Yuanshi period of Emperor Ping of the Han Dynasty. It was later abandoned and rebuilt many times. Emperor Qianlong visited Shangzhen Temple six times to pray for blessings. The Shangzhen Temple we see now is newly built. There are many halls arranged along the mountains from east to west. The walls are all painted red and it is magnificent.
There are many forks in Shangzhenguan, and there is also a confusing six-way intersection, so you have to know the direction carefully. Walking to the left is Wanghu Garden, towards Parking Lot 1 is Sun Wuyuan and Zhu Maichen Reading Platform, towards Parking Lot 3 is the Bell and Drum Tower, and down the mountain is Ningbang Temple and Playing Platform. First go to Wanghu Garden. The Wanghu Garden area includes Huancui Tower and Wanghu Tower further in. It is a good place to overlook the scenery below the mountain. There are several viewing platforms along the road, and you can have a panoramic view of the green mountains. It is said that Qianlong also looked down at the mountain scenery here.
Then go to Sun Wu Garden, which is a very important scenic spot on the mountain. Sun Wu wrote "The Art of War" here. Deep in the dense forest that covers the sky, twists and turns of masonry paths lead to several thatched houses, fences made of bamboo, and gurgling spring water flowing into stone wells through bamboo tubes. It really looks like the retreat of martial arts masters in martial arts novels. There are also scenic spots in the garden such as the "Sun Tzu Art of War" stone carving corridor and the Spring and Autumn Period architectural style Soldiers' Hall. In the tea room of Sun Wu Garden, you can sip tea while reminiscing about the scene in the past when Sun Wu and his friends drank tea and played chess here.
Going up the stairs is Zhu Maichen's reading desk. On a rock is engraved "The place where Zhu Gong, the prefect of Kuaiji in the Han Dynasty, studied" inscribed by Du Mu, a scholar during the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty. Zhu Maichen, a minister of the Western Han Dynasty, used to be very poor. He loved reading but was afraid of being laughed at. He secretly read the book on a rock and hid it under the rock. The book collection town in the north of Qionglong Mountain was named after him.
Then go back to the Liucha intersection and take the direction of the Bell and Drum Towers. The Bell and Drum Towers are the high-rise buildings of Ningbang Temple. Go down to Ningbang Temple. The temple was built in the Liang Dynasty and rebuilt in the 12th year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty. It was originally called Haiyun Temple. After Yue Fei was killed, Han Shizhong lived in seclusion in Canglang Pavilion, Suzhou. He often came to the temple to practice Zen because he still cared about it. The country changed the name of the temple to Ningbang Temple. The most worth-seeing thing in the temple is the 18.8-meter-long Tang Dynasty-style reclining Buddha in the Haiyun Zen Cave. Although it is newly made, it is very beautiful. There is also a fountain in front of the reclining Buddha that looks the same as the Nine Dragon Bath in the scenic spot of Wuxi Lingshan. But much smaller.
Continuing down, after visiting the platform where Han Shizhong and his men played on the Yueyou Kingdom in his later years, we walked all the way down the winding mountain road to the main entrance of the scenic spot. During the entire tour of Qionglong Mountain, you can see cliff carvings, which is also a scenery. Unfortunately, Ruomao Peak, the highest peak in Suzhou in Qionglong Mountain, has not yet been developed and cannot be truly climbed to the top.
At the southeast foot of Qionglong Mountain is the newly built cultural attraction Sun Wu Cultural Park, and further to the east is the Ten Thousand Birds Garden with many birds. Take Route 667 at the main entrance of the scenic area and get off at the "Nonglincun Tanggangtou" stop. Walk 400 meters west to the Sun Wu Cultural Park; get off at the "Xiaowangshan Scenic Area" stop and you will find the Ten Thousand Birds Garden. If you have time, you can visit these two places. If you don’t have time, it doesn’t matter.
There are places to eat on the mountain, usually at Wanghuyuan Restaurant, but it is quite expensive. There is a row of snack bars in front of Shangzhen Temple, vegetarian food is available in Ningbang Temple, and there is a restaurant near the main entrance of the Winding Mountain Highway. Qionglong Restaurant can have barbecue. It is recommended to bring some dry food to fill your stomach. After going down the mountain, go to Zangshu Town to eat the local delicacy Zangshu Mutton. You can still stay in Wanghuyuan on the mountain, but it doesn't make much sense to live on the mountain.
