Where is Pearl Harbor?

Pearl Harbor

The United States’ main military port in the Pacific. It is located on the south coast of Oahu, Hawaii, about 10 kilometers east of Honolulu. Area is 89 square kilometers. It consists of three bays that go deep into the land, with only a narrow mouth connected to the ocean; the water depth in the bay is 10-20 meters, and the navigable water area is 26 square kilometers. The port area has good shelter conditions and large room for maneuver in the water area, making it a world-famous natural harbor. It was named because the waters were once rich in pearls. In 1887, the United States obtained the privilege to build a coaling station and ship repair station here. After the United States annexed Hawaii in 1898, it began to build large naval and air force bases. On December 8, 1941, Japanese naval aircraft launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, launching the Pacific War. After World War II, major reconstruction and expansion were carried out. The port area has many deep-water docks that can berth giant ships; the nearby naval shipyard has a large dry dock that can manufacture and repair various warships. It is the location of the headquarters of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and the supplier of military supplies to the Seventh Fleet. There are Honolulu International Airport and a military airport to the east. There is a highway connection with Honolulu.
