Introduction to Changsha Island County

Changsha Island County is a county set up by Vietnam in the disputed area of ??the South China Sea. Its geographical scope includes more than 20 islands and reefs in the Vietnamese-occupied area of ??the Nansha Islands (Vietnam calls Truong Sa Islands in Vietnamese: Tr?ng SaQu? n ?o ), is the Chinese territory occupied by Vietnam. The Vietnamese government established the county in December 1982 and also designated Song Tu Tay and Sinh Ton districts. The county covers an area of ??496 km², and its main administrative center is on Nanwei Island (renamed Changsha Island in Vietnam).

Vietnam’s military guard in Changsha County has also continued to strengthen. In 2004 and 2005, the Nanwei Island Airport and Changsha Island Airport built by Vietnam in Nansha were completed successively, and a large number of personnel, equipment and ammunition resources continued to arrive in Nansha. Soon after, Vietnam began to send additional marines to the Spratly Islands.

From 2008 to the present, residents of Shuangtai West, Shengsheng, and Changsha Island townships belonging to the "Changsha County" archipelago have received 110 billion VND (Vietnamese: ?ng, approximately RMB 44 million) provided by the government ) to fund and invest in the construction of infrastructure. This amount is used to build cultural palaces, post offices, classrooms, power stations, roads, fresh water storage tanks, wastewater treatment areas, lighting and power supply systems, repair fishing boats, and ship locks to serve seafood fishing. Not only that, Vietnam also held parliamentary elections in the county twice to demonstrate its effective administration. It also carried out oil and tourism development on the occupied islands and reefs, and built infrastructure such as communications and airports. And it is developing in the direction of solidification and permanence.
