Shantang civet cat
Shantang Civet Cat - The Legend of Qili Shantang, Suzhou, Sunday, May 25, 2008, 21:39 It is said that at the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Huqiu Mountain was guarded by tigers. One day, a lion came to Huqiu Mountain. Qiu challenged the tiger to take Huqiu Mountain as his own. In order to protect Huqiu Mountain, the tiger invited seven civet cats (powerful mythical beasts) to help. Together they fought off the lion and drove it to what is now Suzhou New District. That is, Lion Rock (hence the saying that the lion looks back at Tiger Hill) in order to prevent the lion from attacking again. The tiger asked seven civet cats to guard the bridges every mile of Shantang Street. Therefore, "Qili Shantang" is also known as "Qili Shantang".
