Brief Introduction of Hainan Atlas

Atlas of China Province is the first large-scale atlas edited and published in the 60 years since the founding of New China. Atlas uses special languages and symbols, and adopts the form of maps, which vividly reflects the achievements of administrative divisions at all levels, towns, transportation and tourism in China since the founding of New China 60 years ago, and fills a gap in the field of map compilation and publication in China. This atlas makes use of the fruitful achievements of military surveying and mapping that have condensed the painstaking efforts of several generations of surveying and mapping officers and soldiers, uses the latest and most authoritative information such as administrative divisions and place names, and adopts the most advanced digital surveying and mapping technology in the contemporary era. More than 450 editors completed the editing and publishing work in three years and six months.

With a brand-new structure and detailed information, the Atlas highlights the latest information closely related to people's work and life, such as administrative divisions, residential areas, transportation, tourism resources, topography and geomorphology of various provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and special administrative regions). One for each province (autonomous region, municipality directly under the Central Government and special administrative region), with 34 copies in total. It is the only provincial atlas with the most complete content, the latest information and the most detailed description in China. Atlas consists of sequence map, prefecture-level map, county-level map, city map, text introduction and scenic area picture group. Among them, there are 2958 maps, 289 pictures 1.289, and the text introduction is about1.5000 words.

The sequence diagram reflects the comprehensive information of the province (autonomous regions, municipalities and special administrative regions) in politics, topography, transportation and tourism. Prefecture-level maps focus on county-level administrative divisions, residential areas above townships, traffic trunk lines and major scenic spots, and play a connecting role in the atlas. County-level maps are the main part of the atlas, showing in detail the borders, residential areas, highways, expressway's ancillary facilities, railways, airports, ports, rivers, lakes and seas, water conservancy facilities, world natural and cultural heritage and places of interest, and reflecting the ups and downs and topographical features of counties through layered color. The text description briefly introduces the geographical overview, population area, transportation, resource economy, local characteristics, local products and main attractions of each city and county in the form of entries.

The atlas is novel in structure, rich in information, illustrated with pictures and texts, and integrates knowledge, practicality and readability. The publication of this atlas not only provides a practical tool guide for readers to understand the traffic situation, regional characteristics and local customs in their work, study and business trip, but also provides a set of practical tool books for party and government organs, enterprises, schools and other units at all levels to grasp the situation of provinces and counties and popularize geographical science knowledge.
