Spanish Tourism (9) Barcelona Port Area
Barcelona's port area consists of two parts: Vell Port and Olímpic Port.
In the past, the environment here was not good and there were few tourists. From 65438 to 0988, the government reformed and rebuilt this place. 1992, the Olympic Games was held here, and the environment was completely changed. Now it has become a tourist attraction in Barcelona.
Along the southern end of Barcelona's famous Rambla Avenue is the port area. The first thing we see here is the towering Columbus Memorial Tower, which is the most important landmark building when entering Hong Kong. Columbus's finger on the memorial tower is the port of Will, followed by the Olympic Port. The nearby Mount Mondrick is the best place to overlook the harbor.

Monument a Colom (also known as Monument, Memorial Column and Watchtower) is located at the southern end of Rambla Avenue in Barcelona, the starting point of Barcelona Port Area. Designed by Spanish artist Archie, it was built to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America, and was completed during the 1888 World Expo. Today it is the most representative landscape in Barcelona.
This is the place where Columbus returned to Spain after his first voyage to America. At that time, with the support of the king of Spain, Columbus made four voyages to the Western Ocean and discovered the new continent, which opened the road to maritime hegemony for Spain and kicked off the Spanish colonial rule in South America. To commemorate this historical figure, the Spanish built the Columbus Memorial Tower here, which is also the largest Columbus Memorial Tower in Spain.
The memorial tower is 60 meters high, and the statue of Columbus stands at the top. He looked into the distance, his right arm pointing to the ocean ahead. There are two big characters on it: "Glory to Columbus" and "Hail to Columbus". There are five flying goddesses carved around the central part of the main body, and eight huge black lions carved around the base, as well as inscriptions recording Columbus' voyage and statues of King Ferdinand and Queen who sponsored his expedition at that time.
The statue of Columbus at the top of the memorial tower is the only statue in Spain that does not point to the American continent. On the contrary, the direction of Columbus' finger standing at the top of the tower is Algeria, a North African country. There is a watchtower at the top of the tower, which can be reached directly by taking the internal elevator, and you can enjoy the whole picture of the city and the port area from a height.
The vast and irregular flat land around the memorial tower was developed in the middle of19th century and named Peace Square. The square is surrounded by military and political buildings, the Customs Building, the Royal Shipyard and maritime museum.

Port Weil is also called Old Port and Old Port. At the end of the southern tip of Rambla Avenue, Columbus pointed the way on the memorial tower. Port Weil is the earliest developed part of Barcelona Port and is still in use today. In Port Weil, there are also the Customs Building, the Port Building, the maritime museum and the Catalan Museum of History.
It used to be a mess here 1988, the government carried out a thorough renovation of this place, using the cultural heritage of the harbor to develop tourism. 1992 The Olympic Games was further improved. Now it has become the anchorage of luxury yachts, a modern water recreation center and one of the popular tourist attractions.
The long coastline paved a unique stone walkway, separated from the blue ocean by a golden beach more than ten meters wide. There is a stone pedestal facing the sea, and only two people can sit in every other direction. Tall palm trees are planted on both sides of the road, and the green broad leaves sway with the sea breeze, as if conveying all kinds of mysterious information to pedestrians. It is said that every evening, seagulls gather and restaurants and shops near the port are crowded with people. ......
If you are interested, you can also take the cruise ship "Las Golondrinas" to travel around the whole harbor.
This is where Columbus went to sea when he was looking for a route to India. Today, it is one of the important deep-water docks in Barcelona.
There is also a replica of the sailing ship Santa Maria that Columbus took on his first voyage. It is said that you can get on the boat and feel the feeling of Columbus' voyage. ......

In front of the avenue is the IMAX cinema, and in the distance is the World Trade Center.
maritime museum
The Maritime Museum is also called the Ship Museum and the Maritime Museum. Located in Delasalle, the Royal Shipyard is the largest and best-preserved medieval shipyard in the world, and it is a model of Catalan Gothic secular architecture.
The museum introduced the excellent shipbuilding technology of Catalonia at that time, and developed the maritime culture. A replica of a magnificent ship, the flagship of the "Armada" in Spain's heyday, was exhibited in the exhibition hall. There are also replicas of various gunboats, fishing boats and work boats. , as well as various navigation tools and exquisite works of art, introduced the history of Spanish navigation at that time from various aspects, which is worth seeing.
During the interval when we got off the bus and went to the museum to go to the toilet, we took a quick look at the exhibits in the hall and looked in through the glass window outside at the replicas displayed in other exhibition halls.
Catalan Museum of History
The Catalan Museum of History is located next to Palaudel Mar, facing the old port.
According to the itinerary, we only made a short stop in the harbor, only visited some areas at the entrance of the harbor, and did not go deep into the harbor. It is also a pity to learn that this port with profound historical background is rich in connotation and numerous scenic spots. A lot of scenery was later known by looking up information according to pictures.
3. Olympic Port
Olympique Port, also known as Newport, is located in the east of Weil Port. It is a newly-built port and scenic spot in Barcelona for hosting the 1992 Olympic Games and demolishing abandoned factories and buildings around the original port. It is the center of the Olympic Village and a water sports area. The sailing competition of the Barcelona Olympic Games was held here, and the Barcelona Municipal Sailing School was located here. Nowadays, Barcelona has concentrated the most beautiful beaches, the largest casinos, the most seafood dishes and many people who enjoy life most leisurely, and it has also become a new residential area.
There are beaches, coasts, countless yachts and developed businesses here. Modern residential buildings abound, and Barcelona has two tallest buildings.
There are docks built for sailing competitions, various yachts and cruise terminals in the Olympic Port, which provide convenience for ordinary tourists to go to sea.
New Icaria Beach is the earliest artificial beach here, where people swim, relax and bask in the sun.
The Olympic port and the Olympic village belong to the same area. Except for the port, it is generally called the Olympic Village.
1992 After the Olympic Games, the Olympic Village sold the apartments where athletes lived, and now it has become an elegant modern community, Nova lcaria.
The landmark buildings here are two modern buildings 142m high-the "Twin Towers" called the Olympic Port (also known as the "Twin Towers") and the "Whale" made of mesh metal.
The Twin Towers are: Holel Arls Marriott Hotel; There are 44 floors and 500 rooms; The other is Torre Fretta, the headquarters of Spain's largest insurance company.
The huge whale building (Peix dor) is located in the Olympic Port, with a lateral width of 50 meters, and was built by Enrique? De? Lyons' works. This was designed by Frank Gehry, an American. The brilliance of sunlight reflected on the fish makes it a charming scenery in the city.
