When did Portugal break away from Spain?

1580- 1640, Portugal was ruled by Spain for 60 years.

In A.D. 1580, the Arvid dynasty in Portugal fell from power, and Spanish King Felipe II insisted that he was half Portuguese royal blood, which made Iberian rule return to one country.

During the 60 years of Habsburg rule, Portugal was dragged into several wars, the most tragic one being 1588 when the Spanish-Portuguese armada was defeated by Britain.
