Xitang, with a long history, is one of the cradles of ancient Wuyue culture, one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, and a water town with a thousand years of culture in Wudi. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it was the border between wuyue and China, and was known as "Wu Gen's Corner Crossing Family".

Xitang town belongs to the East Asian monsoon region on the southern edge of the northern subtropical zone, which is characterized by mild and humid, distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. Monsoon is the main factor affecting climate, and the winter temperature is characterized by Leng Xia fever.

The precipitation days are mostly concentrated from April to September every year, and the rainfall accounts for more than 65% of the whole year. Among them, April and May are alternating spring and summer winds, with continuous low temperature and rainy days, "spring rain" and June and July are "Meiyu" periods. Due to the influence of monsoon climate, easterly winds prevail in summer and northwest winds prevail in winter.

Xitang is one of the first historical and cultural towns in China, and it has been listed in the China World Cultural Heritage Protection Reserve List by UNESCO. There are 250,000 square meters of well-preserved Ming and Qing buildings in the old city, which is rare in Jiangnan.

The ancient town of Jiangnan water town has formed rich natural landscape resources in Xitang. Streets and alleys are built by rivers, and houses are built by water. 1.028 square kilometers in the old city, there are 27 stone bridges, 1.0 1.22 Gu Xiang and promenades with a length of 1000 meters or more, including Xiyuan, Zhongfutang, Shipilong, Root Carving Hall, Button Hall and Temple.
