Yardangs, as a proper term of geomorphology, has been gradually familiar to people since it was included in various textbooks and geography books in this century, although most people have never witnessed it with their own eyes and think it is a foreign language.

In fact, the word "Ya Dan" is an out-and-out local product of Xinjiang: Chinese and foreign scholars who visited Xinjiang at the beginning of this century, when they saw a large area of raised mounds in the Gobi desert, asked the local people who were guides for their names. They answered "Ya Dan", which means "steep mounds" in Uighur. After translation, "Ya Dan" became "Ya Dan". Among them, the famous ghost town of Wuerhe in Karamay is famous at home and abroad for collecting more than 40 pterosaur fossils, and the ghost town of Jiangjun in Qitai County, changji city is in an endless stream due to the discovery of a large number of silicified wood forest fossils, as well as Ya Dan Group in Lop Nur and Cai Wu Bay in Beishawo, Jimsar. However, it is the Ya Dan landform of Hami, with large area, unique scenic spots and shapes, comprehensive landform types and high tourism grade.

The Ya Dan landform group in Hami, Xinjiang is located in Wubao Township, 70km southwest of Hami City, and it is distributed in intermittent sheets within the range of 50-60km from east to west and 30km from north to south. In the five areas we visited, various wind erosion landforms have different shapes and characteristics: the castle style of the Buddhist temple is the most typical and wonderful, which makes people feel like they are in the temple of Tianzhu Buddhist country, and various shrines and caves can be seen everywhere, some like the Potala Palace and some like Angkor Wat; There are also all kinds of grotesque "animal statues", such as "Scarab pilgrimage" and "giant toad predation" on the western front; There are the most charming gatekeepers, dressed in armor, staring into the distance, looking like the middle ages in ancient Europe; A "sleeping beauty" who has been sleeping for thousands of years and still has a rosy dream; The "dromedary camel" that has traveled for thousands of years; I want to "spread my wings" to fight the sky, but I can't give up the "goshawk" with deep affection for the earth; Cross the ocean to the "Ruiya" in Hami Gobi; There are "faithful mandarin ducks", dolphins, shepherds and "two-headed horses" in the desert ... In addition, all kinds of pavilions are exquisitely shaped and lifelike, which is really fantastic, colorful "birds" and lifelike "beasts", which is amazing.

In addition, there are clear and picturesque Jurassic horizontal rock strata and silicified wood fragments everywhere, which substitute people into a warm and humid environment with dense forests, lakes and swamps and dinosaurs 65.438+0.4 billion years ago. Colorful strange stones, wind ridge stones and mummy fragments exposed from the earth's surface all add to the magic and uniqueness here.

Ya Dan landform in Wubao, Hami is a gully formed by the impact of seasonal floods, lateral erosion and horizontal cutting of rocks, and then the windward end and flank surfaces of rocks are abraded, polished or grooved under the action of directional wind. Wind erosion plays a role in poorly cemented lacustrine deposits, thus forming many wind erosion ridges, ridges and residual hills. These landforms are blown up by sand particles carried by wind and sand, resulting in various strange shapes.
