Hekou Yao Autonomous Prefecture is located in the southeast of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, across the Red River from Laojie City and Guliu City in Vietnam. Mainly distributed in Hekou, Yuanyang, Jinping, Honghe, Xinping, Jinghong and other counties (cities). In 1995, the cultivation area was 1,600 hectares and the output was 28,700 tons, accounting for 11.2% and 33.5% of the province's banana cultivation area and output respectively.
