Introduction to Camel Mountain

Luotuo Mountain has been a famous tourist attraction since ancient times and is known as "Camel Mountain Qianxun".

It is located 4 kilometers southwest of Qingzhou City. From a distance, there are two peaks on the top, which "look like a camel". According to the "Qingzhou Prefecture Chronicle" written by Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, "because the mountain looks like a camel", it is named "Tuoshan". At the beginning of the mountain climbing, on the rock wall in front of the mountain, the words "Tuoshan" written by Qiao Yu, the history book of the Ministry of War of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty, are still vivid in my mind. The mountains and rivers are beautiful and the natural scenery is beautiful. Together with Yunmen Mountain and Pishan Mountain in the south of the city, it is a natural barrier for the ancient city of Qingzhou. It was praised by "Qi Cheng" as "three green mountains and picturesque barrier city". The reason why Luotuo Mountain is eye-catching and famous is not only because of its steep peaks, ancient pines and cypresses, endless "ladders to heaven" and more than a hundred species of animals and plants, but also because of its numerous grottoes and the Haotian Palace on the top of the mountain.

I visited Luotuo Mountain in the Ming Dynasty and was filled with emotions, as evidenced by poems: I never tire of the road to Luotuo Mountain, with thousands of peaks lined with green screens, the sky and the sea are black and the trees are black, and the sunset is blue with clouds. Now, there is a road from Qingzhou City to the foot of Tuoshan Mountain, and there are stone steps to the top of the mountain. On the mountainside is the Buddha Viewing Platform. Standing on the terraces, you can see the natural giant Buddha formed by the curve of the mountain in the southeast. The Buddha statue is 2,500 meters long. It has regular facial features, is peaceful, kind and vivid, and its mouth, nose, chin and throat joints are particularly expressive. It is rare in the world and is breathtaking. The southeast cliff of the main peak of Luotuo Mountain is towering, and there are often clouds and fog in summer and autumn. The famous Luotuo Mountain Cliff Grotto statues are located here. Grottoes are ancient temple buildings carved into the cliff, containing murals and stone carvings of Buddha images or Buddhist stories. On the cliff, figures and Buddha statues are carved directly on the cliff. The Tuoshan Cliff Grottoes Statue Group, known as Tuoshan Temple in the Tang Dynasty, has 5 grottoes, 1 cliff, and 638 statues. The statues are mostly the three major Western icons, with Amitabha on the front, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva on both sides, and the Great Tendency Bodhisattva, followed by Thousand Buddhas, Hercules, Feitian, and smaller supporting figures.

These statues are exquisite and unique, and the carvers are smooth and delicate. Its beautiful female figures and exotic costumes often amaze experts and tourists who visit it, and they never want to leave. According to research, the age of the statue is from the Northern Zhou Dynasty to the Mid-Tang Dynasty. It is a treasure among the existing statues in my country. It brings together grotto statues from the Northern Zhou, Sui and Tang dynasties during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, showing the styles, artistic characteristics and pursuits of each era, and has been highly praised by relevant experts and scholars. The statues in the Tuoshan Cliff Grottoes are extremely precious materials for studying ancient Chinese sculptures, paintings and Buddhist history.
