Introduction to Nagasaki, Kyushu Island, Japan

A famous port city on the west coast of Kyushu Island, Japan, and the capital of Nagasaki Prefecture. It is located in the northern part of the Nagasaki Peninsula and borders Nagasaki Bay to the southwest. It covers an area of ??241 square kilometers and has a population of 447,000 (1986). It is bounded by Mount Kinhira to the east and Mount Iwatani to the west. Surrounded by the Nagasaki volcanoes, the Urakami River and Nakajima River flow through the city and into Nagasaki Bay. The climate is warm and rainy, with an annual average temperature of 16.6℃, 6.4℃ in January and 27.5℃ in August. The annual precipitation is about 2000 mm, with more rainfall from April to July, and the frost-free period is about 240 days. The subsidence coast, the bay is 8 kilometers deep into the land, and the water depth is mostly more than 10 meters. Outside the port, islands are scattered, forming a natural wave barrier and making it a natural harbor.
