Xiamen Overseas Chinese Museum
Siming South Road is the museum area just past Dashengli. In fact, the full name of the museum here is "Overseas Chinese Museum". The writing style here is very strong. Xiamen University, Polytechnic Institute, Overseas Chinese Middle School, etc. There are well-known schools nearby, and there are already many students coming and going.
It is in such an environment that the Overseas Chinese Museum, located at the intersection along the street, with white granite walls, spacious courtyards, and green leaves, is quiet, dignified, and simple. It looks so luxurious and luxurious in this section of the road where land is at a premium. capricious.
Xiamen Overseas Chinese Museum is the only comprehensive museum in China that comprehensively and systematically displays the history of overseas Chinese, with a main building area of ??more than 4,000 square meters. It was founded by patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee with donations from overseas Chinese and returned overseas Chinese.
It was completed in May 1959 and officially opened to the outside world. At present, the museum is mainly divided into three exhibition parts: "Overseas Chinese", "Tan Kah Kee Collection Cultural Relics Exhibition" and "Nature Museum".
Reliefs of Angkor Wat
In the "Overseas Chinese" exhibition hall, we made a surprising discovery. There are scenes of Chinese life on the stone wall reliefs of ancient Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
The Yuan Dynasty envoy Zhou Daguan said in the records of "Chenla Fengtu Ji" that at the end of the 13th century, the Chinese had already lived in Chenla (now Cambodia).
Nanyang Route Map in the Late Ming Dynasty
Another map records that Mo Jiu, a Chinese in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, took his ethnic group to Chenla (Cambodia) for development.
I am very curious. I think there are three problems that need to be solved, otherwise this museum will not be able to stand it.
Who is Zhou Daguan? Who is Mo Jiu? Why go to Cambodia?
Zhou Daguan
Zhou Daguan (about 1266-1346) was a native of Yongjia, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province in the Yuan Dynasty. His nickname was Yimin. Since he was unknown in the Yuan Dynasty, later generations did not know much about his life.
But that doesn’t matter. Importantly, he was appointed by China as its special envoy to Cambodia. Maybe this is my virtue too. He likes to write something when his hands are itchy, but he is a professional and accidentally wrote this book "The Customs of Zhenla".
Due to wars, historical changes and other reasons, the earliest records of Chenla have been lost, which makes this "Dilu" an important historical record of Cambodia.
Furthermore, this book records the local language, customs and trade in great detail, and has considerable influence and reference value on the economic and cultural exchanges between the two places.
In books written by Europeans in the past, it was wrong to think that floating rice was introduced to Southeast Asia in the 19th century, or that foreigners planted it for the local poor.
But according to this book, before he became emperor of Chenla, floating rice had spread all over the area. Therefore, this book corrects many erroneous records in history, which shows its far-reaching influence. Big brother is really awesome!
Magic Wine
Mo Jiu, formerly known as Mo. A native of Dongling Village, Baisha Township, Haikang County, Leizhou District, Guangdong Province (now Dongling Village, Baisha Town, Leizhou City), he was a famous overseas Chinese in Cambodia and Vietnam in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
In the 19th year of Kangxi (1680), he went abroad to Nanrong Prefecture in Chenla (Cambodia). He was "dissatisfied with the government of the early Qing Dynasty" and "unbearable to be disturbed by Land Rover".
Seeing that he was hard-working, brave and entrepreneurial, the local king entrusted him with business and trade and named him "Fang Chi" (equivalent to Fu Yin).
After some time, I went to Mangkan (now Hoa County, Vietnam) on the edge of the Gulf of Siam to recruit refugees to settle and reclaim wasteland. It is said that when he was in crisis, he dreamed of his hometown and county, which guided him to start a business here, hence the name "He County".
After his death, he was appointed company commander of Hexian County, and was posthumously awarded the titles of Houzhou and Dadu Governor. After more than 20 years of operation, Hexian District has initially formed a scale
Ah~! Senior Brother and Ninth Senior Brother, why did they both go to Cambodia? Is Cambodia a shrimp and rice land? Talk about it!
Cambodia Map
The Kingdom of Cambodia, commonly known as Cambodia, formerly known as Khmer, is located in the Indochina Peninsula, bordering Thailand to the west and northwest, Laos to the northeast, and Vietnam to the east and southeast Bordered by the Gulf of Siam to the south.
Cambodia is a saucer-shaped basin, surrounded by mountains on three sides and a vast and fertile plain in the middle, accounting for more than three-quarters of the country. There is the Mekong River and the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia - Tonle Sap Lake (also known as Phnom Penh Lake). The capital is Phnom Penh.
Cambodia is an ancient civilization with a long history. It established a unified kingdom as early as the 1st century AD. Cambodia has experienced a long war since the 1970s.
In 1993, with the establishment of Cambodian state power institutions and the realization of national reconciliation, Cambodia entered a new era of peace and development. As a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, its economy is dominated by agriculture and its industrial base is relatively weak.
It is China's staunchly friendly country in Southeast Asia.
What’s fun? The world cultural heritage Angkor Wat, Sihanoukville, the invincible seaside of paradise, the capital Phnom Penh, once known as the "Little Paris of the East", and so on.
These places are mysterious and I feel like they have been teasing my deepest curiosity.
