Travel and sightseeing in Delaware, USA

Situated smack dab between New York and Washington, D.C., Delaware is a great place for an overnight stay or a weekend trip. As America's first state, hospitality and accessibility have always been part of Delaware's history, making it an ideal vacation spot where the whole family can have fun and enjoy themselves. Perhaps what Delaware is best known for is that it is actually a tax-free shopping paradise, because unlike most other surrounding states, there is no so-called sales tax on goods here.

For tourists who come here for sightseeing, recommended attractions include world-famous museums, large farms and spectacular gardens. These include the Winterthur Memorial Hall and Gardens, the Hagley Museum and Library, the Delaware State Art Museum, and the ancient city of New Castle, located only 7 kilometers south of Wilmington on the banks of the Delaware River.

Every time in late autumn and early spring, the sky will be full of migratory birds. Follow the scenic road, passing Bombay Hook Wildlife Sanctuary and several small fishing villages. Dover is located in the center of the state and is the capital of Delaware. It is also home to many historic sites open to the public.

Further south on the Atlantic coast of Delaware, leisure resorts can be found everywhere, such as Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island and Lewes. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of activities in these areas, including rafting, bathing, swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, camping, water skiing and surfing.
