Practical information on Saipan
Accommodation overview
There are many types of hotels on the island, from quiet and comfortable to spacious and high-end hotels. In addition to hotels with specific characteristics that are suitable for backpackers, tourists can choose various types of hotels to stay according to their own preferences.
It is recommended to choose a hotel facing the sea. Tourists can choose to "stay at home" and enjoy another kind of fun. In the morning, after having breakfast at the seaside restaurant, you can play on your own beach. When you are tired, go to experience a relaxing spa at the seaside. At sunset, sit lazily on the beach and watch the sunset, giving you a relaxed seaside style. In the evening, you can have a barbecue on the beach while enjoying a dance performance by the local native Chamorro people. In fact, there are not a few vacationers who choose to spend a lazy day in the hotel.
Language
The local official language is English, Chamorro and Karolan are indigenous languages, and Japanese is available in tourist areas. However, there are many Chinese people shopping in local shops, so when asking for directions, you may meet Chinese compatriots, so you don’t have to worry about language issues.
Currency
The currency in circulation is the United States. It is best to exchange it at a domestic bank in advance before going abroad. You can also exchange it at local banks, airport exchange offices, hotels, and duty-free shops. Credit cards and Chinese bank cards with the UnionPay logo can be used in most consumer places and stores frequented by tourists.
Saipan bank business hours: Monday to Thursday 10:00-15:00, Friday 10:00-17:00, closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Power supply
The voltage on the island is 110 volts, please bring your own voltage converter. The Saipan plug is different from China's three-term American plug. The two-term flat plug used in China can be used locally.
Communication
Saipan's telephone system has been integrated into the United States telephone system. The country code used is the same as that of the United States, and the local area code is 670. Visitors can use the hotel phone or public phone to make intra-island calls at a cost of 35 cents each time, with unlimited call time.
If tourists need to contact the country, they can also buy a local phone card called Verizon (equivalent to the domestic IP card). This phone card costs 5 US dollars and can make 180 minutes of domestic calls.
If Chinese mobile phones have global roaming services, they can make and receive calls on Saipan, but sometimes the signal is not very stable. The cost of making domestic calls using a China Mobile mobile phone in Saipan is 8.99 yuan/minute.
Drinking water
Local tap water is desalinated from seawater and cannot be drunk directly. Even if it is boiled, it will have a sedimentary or salty taste. There is a charge for drinking water from the waiter, so it is best to buy mineral water at a nearby convenience store.
Postal Service
The cost of the Postal Service is the same as that of the United States Postal Service. There are post offices in the most convenient places on the three main islands, and there are also mail service companies in Saipan. Open Monday to Friday, open on Saturday morning, closed on Sunday.
Dress recommendations
Saipan has a subtropical marine climate all year round and the climate is relatively hot. Just wear a comfortable short-sleeved shirt and shorts, casual shoes or sandals, and add a light jacket at night. A sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential items.
