Nagoya is the capital of Aichi Prefecture and the fourth largest city after Tokyo, Osaka and Yokohama. Located in the central and southern part of Honshu on the Nobi Plain, close to Ise Bay, it is the political, industrial, economic, cultural and transportation center of central Japan. It was recorded in historical records as early as the 12th century. It was known as Nakono, Nagoya and Nagoya in ancient times. It was established as a city in 1889.
