What do departure tax, transit tax and entry tax mean?
Departure tax refers to the tax you have to pay when you leave a country.
Transit tax is a tariff levied by a country's customs on foreign goods transferred to a third country through its customs territory. During the period of mercantilism, transit tax prevailed in European countries, and its main purpose was to increase national fiscal revenue. With the development of capitalism and the increase of taxes, by the second half of19th century, most countries had abolished transit taxes one after another. After the war, GATT stipulated the principle of "free transit". At present, most countries only levy a small amount of visa fees, printing fees, registration fees and statistical fees on transit goods.
