Ningguo is located in the southeast of Anhui Province, at the northern foot of Tianmu Mountain, with Suzhou and Hangzhou in the east and Huangshan Mountain in the west, connecting seven counties and cities in Anhui and Zhejiang provinces. It is the throat of the mountainous area in southern Anhui.1March 1997, the county was withdrawn to set up a city. The highest peak in China is Gaofeng Mountain in the west, with an altitude of1153m. The territory is mountainous, high in the south and low in the north.

The establishment of Ningguo County began in Jian 'an 13 of the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 208). The name of the county means "Bangning Guotai, Five Blessingg Min 'an",1March, 1997, the county was withdrawn to set up a city. There are beautiful mountains and rivers in the territory, Tianmu Mountain winds in the southeast edge, and Huangshan Mountain extends into the territory from the west, forming a terrain with high mountains in the south and low mountains in the north. Banqiao Nature Reserve at the provincial level, with an area of over 90,000 mu, is connected with Qinglong Lake with a storage capacity of 941000,000 cubic meters, forming a pleasant scenery with lakes, mountains and caves as a whole. There are many places of interest in this area. Shanmen Cave, Qianqiuguan and Ren Xian Tower are listed in the dictionary of places of interest in China because of their long history and unique features. Among them, Shanmen Cave is known as "the wonder of Shanmen exists in the world, and the wonder of Shanmen does not exist in the world". The main tourist areas include Linxia Scenic Area, Shizhu Mountain Scenic Area, Daochangping Scenic Area, Banqiao Nature Reserve and Qinglong Bay Eco-tourism Area under construction. As well as Shanmendong, Qianqiuguan and Ren Xian Tower, which are listed in the China Scenic Spots Dictionary.
