Title Translation of Public Signs Papers (Designs) from a Practical Perspective

On the Translation of Public Signs from the Pragmatic Perspective

The purpose, significance and related research trends of the project;

Objective: With the development of China's economy and the acceleration of its opening to the outside world, international friendly exchanges and economic cooperation are increasing, and foreign exchanges and international exchanges are becoming more frequent. Public signs are an important part of the language environment and human environment of international cities and tourist destinations. Therefore, the English translation of Chinese public signs is becoming more and more important. However, there are uneven errors in the translation of public signs in major cities in China.

Significance: At present, due to the failure to correctly grasp the principle of pragmatic equivalence, public signs in some cities in China appear information deviation, information error and information communication obstacle, that is, pragmatic failure, including pragmatic language failure and social pragmatic failure. This paper intends to analyze the translation of public signs in China from the perspective of pragmatics, and put forward translation principles and methods of public signs by discussing their linguistic features and pragmatic functions.

Research trends: Lu Hefang pointed out four functional characteristics of public signs: indicative, suggestive, restrictive and mandatory, analyzed the "dynamic" and "static" information of public signs, and expounded the unique language style of public signs. , Wan,, Jinlong, etc. This paper analyzes the mistakes in the English translation of public signs in urban public places in China, puts forward concrete and feasible suggestions for improvement, and probes into the methods and principles for the translation of public signs. Qiu Yu and Huang Xiaoming believe that due to the differences in language and culture, pragmatic failures often occur in the English translation of Chinese public signs, which are mainly manifested in pragmatic language failures and social pragmatic failures. In August, 2003, Beijing Foreign Studies University launched "Online Research on Chinese-English Public Signs" (). In September 2004, he was responsible for editing the Chinese-English Dictionary of Public Signs, systematically summarizing the current translation of public signs, and establishing the Chinese-English Public Signs Research Group.

Main contents: This paper discusses the translation of public signs from the perspective of pragmatics, analyzes the classification and characteristics of public signs, and cites a large number of examples to illustrate the problems existing in the translation of public signs in China. It is suggested that in the translation of public signs, according to the relevance theory, the context should be fully considered and the principle of pragmatic equivalence should be applied.

Innovation: There are many papers on the translation of public signs in China, but this paper proposes that the translation of public signs should attach importance to the role of context, increase relevance and expand cognitive environment in order to achieve pragmatic equivalence.

Research methods: By using deductive method and literature review method, case study and theoretical analysis, it is proposed that the translation of public signs should follow pragmatic equivalence.
