Introduction to Tongli

Tongli is still unfamiliar to many people, but in the Jiangnan area, it is already a dazzling water town pearl and a new tourist hotspot.

If you yearn for the charm of Oriental Venice in Zhouzhuang, you can’t miss Tongli.

Tongli Town is located beside Taihu Lake and the canal, surrounded by five lakes.

It was built in the Song Dynasty and has a history of more than 1,000 years. It is a veritable ancient water town.

It is the first ancient town in Jiangsu Province (1982) and the only ancient town to have the entire town as a cultural relics protection unit.

In 1995, it was listed as one of the first batch of historical and cultural towns in Jiangsu Province.

Currently, it is actively applying for inclusion in the "World Cultural Heritage List".

Tongli is definitely a rare "rich land" in the south of the Yangtze River.

Historically, Tongli Town was really called "rich soil".

But the name "rich soil" is too ostentatious, so the word "rich" is removed, and then divided into two parts, the upper half is "tong", and the lower half is "tian". "Added with "Tu", it becomes "Li", from which the name "Tongli" comes.

Today, Tongli, under the plan of “protecting the ancient town and developing tourism”, has successively completed the projects of “One Garden”, “Two Halls”, “Three Bridges” and Tongli Lake Tourist Resort.

At present, we are actively restoring Geng Le Hall, Ji Cheng’s former residence, T-shaped river channel, Nanyuan Tea House, Pearl Tower and other scenic spots, in order to recreate the style of the thousand-year-old ancient town with the best tourism style.

Summarizing the characteristics of each scenic spot, Tongli mainly has three types: many bridges, many Ming and Qing buildings, and many famous people.

We might as well look for them one by one...
