Baden-baden tourist routes

Baden-baden Railway Station is 5 kilometers away from the city center. The best way to get into town is by bus. The center of baden-baden is in Loepoldsplatz, where most buses outside the railway station go. When you arrive at Leept Square, you can decide whether to go up the mountain to see the castle church or go to the casino first. Since the casino starts gambling in the afternoon, visitors who arrive in the morning can go up the mountain to see the historical sites first.

Go up the hill from Leept Square along a small street on Sophienstr's left. After passing a Little Square, you will see the stone steps up the mountain. When you walk on the stone steps, you can see a building on the left. This is baden-baden City Hall, which was the original casino in the19th century. Later, when the casino moved, it was changed into a city hall. Go up and turn left, and you will arrive at the market square. To the south of the square is the monastery church. Now it is a Catholic church with exquisite interior decoration and many carefully carved religious sculptures. This church is a late Gothic building completed in 1752. There is a stone road leading to the castle on the hill to the north of the market square. You can walk to the castle from there.

There are actually two castles in baden-baden. One of the oldest castles is on the mountain in the north. It is called the old castle (12nd century). The castle near the city is called the new castle because it was built in 1479. The architectural style of the castle belongs to the Renaissance, which is the duke's residence transformed from the original Gothic castle. In this castle, most of the buildings need to be repaired now. Baden-baden city government can't afford expensive maintenance, so the castle has been empty. Only one cultural relic museum in this group of buildings is open to the public. Unfortunately, the beautiful castle garden cannot be visited by tourists.

After seeing the castle, you can go back to the market square and then go down from the east side of the church. There is a row of old houses, which used to be steam baths, but now they have become art galleries. The magnificent building to the south of it is the famous Friderichs Bader. Along the road in front of the exhibition hall to the east, there is a stone road leading to the foot of the mountain to the east of Friedrich Bass. There is a spring in this path, called "oil spring". Of course, spring water does not contain oil, but when it flows over smooth rocks, it will have a feeling of shiny oil. The local people believe in the mysterious power of this hot spring and think that it has the effect of curing all diseases.

From the "oil spring" next to Rome Square, you can see the old monastery and its affiliated church in the building on the left. The Roemischer Baeder is just below the square. You have to go down the stairs to the basement to see it. In the east of Rome Square, there is a very modern large-scale building, that is, caracalla Hot Spring, which is famous for its extremely complete facilities. There are very beautiful buildings in the pedestrian area near the square. Most houses along the road have balconies with carved railings, which are full of French romance. Because baden-baden was once the refuge of Parisian aristocrats, the architecture here was deeply influenced by Baroque style. Wandering in such a beautiful street is a good enjoyment, and you can also pay attention to the well-dressed pedestrians passing by. Maybe one of them is a millionaire.

After returning to Le empt Square, walk in the direction of Osi River, and soon you will arrive at Gothic Square across the river. Go further and you'll find the Kurhouse Casino. There are many exquisite gift shops in front of the casino, and the goods inside are marked with extremely expensive prices, which are for people who have made a fortune by gambling. After visiting the casino, you can walk north along the river and go to Neue Trinkhalle. Visitors can taste the spring water that supplies Friedrich baths. The tap of the spring is located in the hall of the drinking spring hall. The water is clear and slightly salty, and it is warm and has a sulphur smell. When drinking water, it is best to bring your own cup for hygiene. Yinquan Hall itself is a beautiful building, built in 1842. There are many colorful murals in the corridor, with Clintel-style columns, telling folk stories related to bathing and drinking water.

In addition, the Iffezheimer Galopprennen held in the small town of Ifezheim near baden-baden every spring and autumn is also very lively.
