Where is Wenzhou?

Wenzhou Wenzhou, located in the southeast of Zhejiang Province, is a coastal city with a long history. It is one of the first 14 coastal cities in China and a prefecture-level city in Zhejiang Province. It is the economic and cultural center of southern Zhejiang.

Wenzhou used to be Ou Di, also known as Dongou. Ou is the name of a pottery. In the Neolithic Age, primitive Ou people lived in Wenzhou and made pottery. In the third year of the Western Han Dynasty (pre-192), Hui Di was the capital of Donghai King (commonly known as Dongou King Qiyao). The river that flows through Wenzhou is called Oujiang.

The ancient city of Wenzhou was built in the first year of Taining in East Jin Mingdi (AD 323). Wenzhou is named because it is located in Lingnan and Wen Qiao with mild and humid seasons. According to "Wenzhou Prefecture Records", when the city was built, Guo Pu, the magistrate, climbed the Western Hills and looked around the mountains. He said to the locals: "When the city is rich outside the mountain, it is bound to build a city on the mountain, but if the enemy does not fight, it will be safe for a long time." So he imitated the position of the Big Dipper and built it on the mountain, so it was called Doucheng. Legend has it that when the city was built, a white deer ran with flowers in its mouth, spit on the wall and turned into a cloud. Ran Ran flew into the sky, and the place where the white deer ran was full of birds and flowers. People call it Bailucheng or Lucheng for good luck.

As far back as five or six thousand years ago, in the late Neolithic period, our ancestors had already thrived here. Three generations of Xia, Shang and Zhou lived in Ou Di. Wenzhou was called Ouyue in ancient times. In the late Neolithic period five or six thousand years ago, there were ancestors working and living here. During the Warring States period, it belonged to Yue State. After Qin Shihuang unified the six countries, he set up Minzhong County. In the third year, Emperor Hui of the Han Dynasty made Gou Jian, a descendant of King Yue, the king of the East China Sea, with Dong 'ou as its capital, commonly known as Dong 'ou King.
