On August 19, 2019, the second phase of Shenzhen Metro Line 5 was opened to traffic. It is undergoing an unloaded trial run and is expected to be put into operation on September 28. This is not only the first line opened in the second phase of the Shenzhen Metro Phase 3 project, but also the first subway line that runs through the Qianhai area. Through the connection of Line 2, Qianhai and Shekou area will be directly connected with one transfer.
After the opening of the second phase of the line, the number of stations on Line 5 will increase from 27 to 34. The line starts from Qianhaiwan, the original terminus of Line 5, in the north, and ends at Chiwan, the terminus of Line 2, in the south, with a total length of 7.6 kilometers. It is the first line opened in the second phase of the Shenzhen Metro Phase 3 project.
The opening of the second phase of the line will enable a direct transfer between Qianhai and Shekou. Previously, although the direct distance between Qianhai and Shekou was close, commuting by subway between the two places required a long detour and took a lot of time. Now there are 7 stations in the second phase of Line 5 directly connecting to the Shekou Line of Line 2, providing convenience to citizens.
It is worth noting that the second phase of Line 5 has three transfer stations. Citizens can transfer to Line 2 at Chiwan Station, which intersects with the Shekou Line, and transfer to Line 9 at Qianwan Station. Line, and transfer to the planned Line 15 at Railway Park Station.
