Shanxi Zhongtiaoshan, why is it so important? You will understand when you see the map.

I believe many people have heard of places like Qinling Mountain and Taihang Mountain, even if they have never traveled. The former is a mountain range that geographically divides China into north and south, and the latter is an important mountain range in eastern China, which is a geographical dividing line.

In history, wars broke out around them, and countless literati left wonderful poems. Today, China presents a scene of peace, prosperity and development. These two places naturally become famous tourist attractions, and the road trip route along the Qinling Mountains or Taihang Mountains emerges one after another.

But few people seem to notice that there is a hill near them, which is very inconspicuous, but in fact it has always been a battleground for military strategists in history. It's Zhongtiao Mountain.

It is estimated that many people have never heard of the name Zhongtiaoshan and will feel strange. In fact, it is located between Taihang Mountain and Huashan Mountain, in the south of Shanxi Province. Because of its long and narrow terrain, it is located in the middle of two mountains, hence the name Zhongtiaoshan.

Its main peak, Xuehua Mountain, is as high as 1994 meters above sea level, but this is not the highest point of the whole mountain range. The highest point of Zhongtiao Mountain is 2322 meters above sea level, which is Shun Wang Ping at the eastern end.

Zhongtiao Mountain is located along the Yellow River, with towering peaks, undulating mountains, large height difference between north and south, many basins in the north and steep terrain. The slope in the south is relatively gentle.

To tell the truth, the light of Zhongtiao Mountain has been blocked by Qinling Mountain, Taihang Mountain, Huashan Mountain, and its neighbor Wuwangshan (the mountain in Gong Yu's story of moving mountains). In addition, many people now pay more attention to the tourism development value of a mountain, so Zhongtiao Mountain is not so dominant in these aspects.

However, although unknown, people's sense of existence in history is leveraged. It is no joke to say that it is a battleground for military strategists. Just look at the map. Its entire mountain range is at the center of the origin of Chinese civilization, and its role in ancient times can even affect the historical trend.

Zhongtiaoshan is not only the turning point of the Yellow River, but also the junction of three provinces (namely Chang 'an, Dongdu and Beidu in ancient times), and its strategic position is self-evident.

Before the Song Dynasty, if we wanted to unify China, it was a place we had to fight for. Especially the salt lake in the northern part of the mountain range has been a strategic place since ancient times and is often contested by various tribes.

Yuncheng Salt Lake is, after all, the largest salt production base in China. Needless to say, salt played an important role in China's ancient feudal dynasty. So far, salt veins are in the hands of official institutions. It was forbidden to buy and sell illicit salt in ancient times, and offenders were exiled lightly.

At the same time, because of its rich mineral resources, Zhongtiaoshan is also an important cold weapon manufacturing base in ancient China. The shadow of Zhongtiao Mountain can be seen in many wars in history. During the Warring States Period, Wei Zeng, who shared the Jin State with other countries, set Yuncheng as its capital. Yuncheng was close to Zhongtiao Mountain, but later it was too close to Guanzhong area and had to move the capital.

During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, two groups, Gao Huan and Yu Wentai, fought fiercely for Zhongtiao Mountain, and only won fenglingdu (Jin Yong fans should be familiar with this place) next to Zhongtiao Mountain, because it was an excellent place to control the Central Plains, with Guanzhong in the west and Luoyang in the south.

After Li Yuan started his army in the Tang Dynasty, his army entered the Guanzhong area all the way along Zhongtiaoshan. Even during the Anshi Rebellion, Tang Jun still regarded this place as an important area for strategic counter-offensive. It is not difficult to see that Zhongtiaoshan occupies a strategic position that cannot be ignored in the wars of many dynasties.

Even in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Zhongtiaoshan has played a powerful strategic role. The Northwest Army, composed of soldiers from Guanzhong area, smashed dozens of Japanese attacks in Zhongtiaoshan area and guarded the security of Guanzhong Plain with flesh and blood.

At this time, the soldiers of the Northwest Army stepped forward and launched a bloody battle with the Japanese army in Zhongtiaoshan area, eventually forcing the Japanese army to retreat.

From this, we can feel the unique strategic significance of Zhongtiaoshan-it is like the last line of defense in Guanzhong area, whether for the Japanese army or our soldiers; I can feel the fearless patriotism of the officers and men of the Northwest Army and the spirit of tenacious resistance and unyielding sacrifice.

In today's peaceful times, the strategic position of Zhongtiao Mountain is not so prominent, surrounded by mountains and rich in tourism resources, which makes it more and more low-key

However, Zhongtiaoshan also has its own tourism resources. For example, Zhongtiaoshan National Forest Park has a late Paleolithic site-Xia Chuan Site, which is about 23,000 years ago.

In addition, the forest park is divided into six scenic spots, some can see the magnificent waterfalls, some let people walk in the canyon and feel the mysterious landform of the canyon, and some can see the magnificent and rushing rivers, depending on which one tourists like.

Although Zhongtiao Mountain is not so well-known and rich in tourism resources, its role in history will not be erased. Most importantly, those soldiers who fought bloody battles to defend their homeland in Zhongtiaoshan should not be forgotten.
