Jingbo Lake, the largest alpine barrier lake in China and the second largest in the world, is located on the main stream of the Mudanjiang River, a tributary of the Songhua River, in the southwest of Ning'an City, Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, China, 50 kilometers away from Ning'an City. The altitude is 351 meters.
The average depth of the lake is 40 meters. The general water level is the highest all year round at 353.65 meters and the lowest at 345.61 meters. The annual average flow is 9.2 to 10 cubic meters per second, and the water storage capacity is 1.625 billion cubic meters. In addition to the main stream of Mudanjiang River, there are also small rivers such as Dalishugou River and Erzhan Xigou River that flow into the lake.

Jingpo Lake was called the Meituo River in "Hanshu Geography". In the second year of Yonghui, Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty (652 AD), it was called A Buhe (also known as Ablon Lake) was later called Erhaijin. In the first year of Kaiyuan of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (AD 713), it was called Khanhai. It was first called Jingbo Lake in the Ming Dynasty, Bilton Lake in the Qing Dynasty, and it is still called Jingbo Lake today.
In 755 AD, the Bohai Kingdom moved its capital from Jilin Province to today's Bohai Town and built its capital "Shangjing Longquan Mansion". In 928 AD, the Bohai Kingdom was destroyed by the Khitan and its capital was destroyed.
Historically, the residents in the Jingbo Lake area were mainly the Sushen tribe and their descendants. According to Chinese historical records: "In the fifteenth year of King Wu of Zhou (1666 BC) and the ninth year of King Cheng of Zhou (1654 BC), the Sushen family came to pay tribute." Yilou in the Western Han Dynasty, Wuji in the Northern Wei Dynasty, Mohe in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Jurchens and Manchus in the Song and Yuan Dynasties are all descendants and branches of the Sushen tribe.
During the Anti-Japanese War, the Japanese conducted many investigations in the Jingpo Lake area, felled trees, excavated cultural relics, and built power plants. Anti-Japanese heroes also carried out activities in this area. After liberation, the main residents here were Han, Korean and Manchu.
