Pohang’s geographical location and economic development

Pohang is the headquarters of Pohang Steel, one of the world's largest steel companies, where a large number of scientists from all over the world gather.

It is located on the southeast coast of South Korea (full name: REPUBLIC OF KOREA). The northwest coast of Yongil Bay, adjacent to the southwest side of the East China Sea (East China Sea in South Korea), is one of the main ports in eastern South Korea. Every year, many people travel to South Korea in Lairai, and most of those who choose to go to Pohang are independent travelers. Therefore, Pohang is a good place for tourism in South Korea. Not only that, it is the industrial center in eastern South Korea and has a large steel plant. It also has an important fishing port.

The port has a temperate climate with prevailing southerly winds. The annual average temperature reaches a maximum of about 31℃ in August and a minimum of about -10℃ in January.

The bay generally does not freeze. The average rainfall throughout the year is about 1500mm. The tidal range in the port is not significant.

There are 23 main terminal berths in the port area, with a shoreline of 5100m and a maximum water depth of 16.5m. Loading and unloading equipment includes various shore cranes, unloaders and tugboats, among which the shore crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 35 tons and the tugboat has a maximum power of 2207kW. Loading and unloading efficiency: 1,000 tons of coal per hour. The ore capacity is 1,500 tons per hour, and continuous operation can reach 30,000 tons per day. Benhong’s largest reliable 150,000-dwt ship. The water depth at the anchorage of the large ship reaches 22m. The main export goods are steel products, fish and fish products, etc. The main imported goods are materials, salt, crude oil and ores.
