Can I go to Macau with my passport?

No. Mainland residents cannot go to Macau with only their passports. The person concerned needs to have a "Hong Kong and Macau Permit" to go to Macau. The Macau Pass is a travel document issued by the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China to residents of mainland China traveling to and from Macau for private purposes such as traveling, visiting relatives, engaging in business, training, employment, studying abroad and other non-official activities.

Mainland Chinese residents mainly use the Hong Kong and Macau Permit to go to Macau.

There are conditions for traveling with a passport:

1. Those holding a third country residence visa can go to Macau with their passport, third country ID card/residence permit, unlimited times, and can stay for 14 days each time days

2. Those holding short-term visas from third countries can fly to Macau with their passports and air tickets, and stay up to 5 days. If you enter Macau twice within 60 days without taking a flight, you will be refused entry the third time. And it may affect the next passport application;

3. Holders of air tickets departing from Macau to a third country can enter Macau without a visa with their passports. They can stay up to 5 days and enter Macau twice within 60 days without flying. You will be refused entry for the third time, which may affect your next passport application;

4. If you fly to Macau from a third country, you can enter without a visa and can stay for 7 days.

Travel between Chinese Citizens When traveling between the Mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macao Special Administrative Region, Chinese citizens traveling between the Mainland and Taiwan must apply for pass documents in accordance with the law and abide by the relevant provisions of this law. Specific management measures shall be stipulated by the State Council.
