Wa nationality new rice festival

Time: August 13th to 15th of the lunar calendar.

On the New Rice Festival, Wa people have to get up early, prepare chicken, pork and beef, and then go to the rice fields to harvest new rice. After the rice is harvested, a family sacrifice will be held. New rice and rice cooked with new rice will be presented to the altar first, and Father Moba will be asked to recite a spell and invite the souls of ancestors to go home and taste new rice. After worshipping God, the elderly and children must be allowed to eat first, and then everyone can enjoy the meal. During the family sacrifice ceremony, the host will refuse outsiders to enter, and after the ceremony, the villagers will be invited to come to the festival. Then people in the village will bring gifts to congratulate them. When night falls, people will dance around the bonfire, and the host will bring out the best water wine and rotten chicken rice to entertain the guests.

Planting festival

Also known as "Yojima" Festival. On the Wa mountain where the mountains overlap, during the spring ploughing season, hardworking Wa people are busy raking fields to prepare for planting rice, and at the same time holding an interesting planting festival. On Arbor Day, everyone will build roads in the village and clean every house inside and outside. Young people will automatically form several groups, some will go hunting in the mountains and some will go fishing by the river. Cook the caught prey and fish into porridge for everyone to enjoy. If the hunter hits the big deer and wild boar and returns to the village, people will meet them at the entrance of the village and sing hunting songs. There are two forms: village activities and individual activities of each household. For village-wide activities, you have to slaughter a cow in the village square, then cut the beef into pieces and divide it into pieces by households; When families celebrate the "island-building" festival alone, every housewife will go to her field to do some symbolic planting actions. In the evening, all the men, women and children in the village gather at the edge of Honghuotang, drinking and singing songs of blessing. The lead singer must be an elder or a respected old singer.
