Historical evolution

The name of Benxi County originated in the Qing Dynasty. According to "Rebuilding the Monument to Kannonji", "Hundreds of miles south of Shengjing (now Shenyang), there is Benxi Lake", and there is Guanyin Ancient Temple beside the lake. According to the Eight Banners Tongzhi, "In the fifth year of Yongzheng (1727), this lake (Benxi Lake) was called Cup Rhinoceros Lake." A long time ago, it was said that the lake was still small, just like a glass of clear water, and the bottom of the lake was narrow and wide, shaped like the horn of a rhinoceros, so it was named "Cup Rhino Lake" after its shape. This is the earlier name of Benxi Lake. Later, because Huaixi Lake was difficult to write and recognize, it was renamed Benxi Lake. Benxi County was established in the thirty-second year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty, so it was named because the county government was near Benxi Lake.

Benxi County was under the jurisdiction of Liaodong County and Xuanjing County from the Warring States Period to Qin, Han, Wei and Jin Dynasties. Northern Wei Dynasty, Northern Qi Dynasty and Sui Dynasty were separated by Koguryo. Liaodong was recovered in the early Tang Dynasty, which belonged to the government of Anton.
