Travels in Berlin-Pegamon Museum

Our trip in Berlin lasted for three days and three nights. Compared with many ancient cities in Europe, Berlin is a new city, but the museums in this city are doing very well. We bought a museum pass and visited nearly ten museums of all sizes, all of which were wonderful, and the most impressive one was the Pegamon Museum on the museum island.

The Pegamon Museum is named after the Pagamon Altar, the treasure of the town hall in the museum, also known as Zeus Altar. This altar was excavated in modern Turkey at the end of 19th century, and it was moved into the museum as a whole. After it was carefully restored by professionals, it showed tourists the commemorative works of Greek art more than 2,1 years ago. Unfortunately, it was not open to the public when we visited it. Fortunately, the other two treasures of the town hall were open.

The huge Staar Gate has also been moved to the museum as a whole. This magnificent gate was once the gate of the city of Babylon (about 26 years ago), with a height of 14 meters and a width of 3 meters. The walls are all blue glazed tiles, and it is decorated with many colorful glazed tiles with reliefs of cows, dragons and lions, which looks exquisite and luxurious. Because it is a one-to-one restoration, we can feel the grand occasion of Babylon in those days.

Another treasure of the town hall is the marble market gate of Miletus in ancient Rome, which was built in ancient Rome before 19 and excavated in the ancient city of Miletus in present-day Turkey. Like the previous two cultural relics, it was transported to Berlin and restored. The two-story gate is basically well-preserved. What is even more surprising is that its floor can be well-preserved, just like it was newly built yesterday. Other exhibits in the Pegamon Museum are also very beautiful, and its Chinese guide is very detailed. It is a must-see place to go to Berlin.
