In what year did China join the World Tourism Organization?
Members of the World Tourism Organization are divided into full members (tourism departments of sovereign governments), associate members (territories without actual diplomatic power) and affiliated members (organizations, enterprises and institutions directly engaged in tourism or related to tourism).
Associate members and affiliated members have no decision-making power over the affairs of the World Tourism Organization. Members of the World Tourism Organization include 156 countries, 6 associate members and more than 400 affiliated members (representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations and local tourism departments). Up to now, countries including the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland have not yet become members of the organization.
Extended data:
The General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization is the highest-level conference of international tourism, which is held every two years. The 22nd General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization held in Chengdu is the first time to enter the central and western cities of China.
The scale of two-way tourism exchanges between China and countries and regions along the Belt and Road has exceeded 25 million, and China has become an important tourist market for many countries and regions along the Belt and Road. With the deepening of tourism cooperation, the scale of tourism exchange will further increase. It is estimated that during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, China will attract 85 million international tourists from countries and regions along the Belt and Road, and boost tourism consumption by about 1 1000 billion US dollars.
