Baishishan, located at 15km south of Laiyuan County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, is the northernmost part of Taihang Mountain. It consists of more than 100 relatively independent peaks, and the main peak is 2096 meters above sea level. During the Warring States Period, one mountain was divided into Yan and Zhao, and in Liao and Song Dynasties, one mountain was divided into two countries.

Baishishan, named after the mountains covered with white marble, is a new type of peak forest landform in China. Baishishan Mountain is high, with few curves, many corners, large height difference and high density. There are "three peaks, six peaks, nine valleys and eighty-one peaks", and the main ridge line is more than 7000 meters long. The highest peak is the leader of the northwest uplift of North China Plain.

In 2004, Baishishan Scenic Area was rated as a national scenic spot by the National Tourism Administration and a national forest park by the National Forestry Department. On September 18, 2006, Baishishan in Laiyuan, Yesanpo National Geopark in Laishui and Fangshan National Geopark in Beijing jointly declared the World Geopark, which was approved by UNESCO as the World Geopark.
