Almost everyone here, men, women and children, can sing the ancient multi-voice Dong songs. Whether in the field or outside the village, Yue Xian is everywhere.

Take a bus to Dong Village in Huang Xiao in the mountains. There is a wind and rain bridge at the end of the oil-green terraced fields, and the Huang Xiao Drum Tower is just a few steps away. A big Dong song performance is being held in the Drum Tower, and the performers have already sat around the Drum Tower. Women wear collarless white embroidered long-sleeved shirts, short pleated skirts of black cloth, silver hair clips and multi-layered silver collars around their necks, while men wear blue and white plaid long cloth, white lapels and black shiny pants. The singing started, and the rhythm was compact and slow, and no one commanded the whole singing process. Different voices are loud and powerful, or gentle and deep, and naturally blend into one song. I sang a few songs and finally performed an interesting wedding-robbing song. Although I didn't understand what I was saying, I could guess seven or eight points from my eyes, which attracted everyone's laughter. ?

Dong Zhai Drum Tower shaped like a fir tree

Drum Tower is one of the "Three Treasures of Dong Village" and a landmark building of Dong Village. It looks like a huge fir tree, and the villagers call it a "shade tree". In the era when there was no Drum Tower, many people's activities were carried out under the ancient Chinese fir trees. Later, in order to meet the needs of social and cultural activities, fir trees were used as the prototype when building fixed buildings. According to the literature, "Dong people lived in caves. In spring, huge trees are buried underground as buildings. These trees are several feet high and singers stay on them at night. " This is the original Drum Tower.

The distinctive feature of the Drum Tower is that all the tenons are made of Chinese fir, and there is no nail or rivet, so the structure is firm and exquisite. After several years of development, the technology of Dongzhai Drum Tower has been greatly improved on the basis of maintaining the shape of "shadow tree". Its vertical modeling has three eaves, five eaves, seven eaves to fifteen eaves, and its plane projection has quadrangles, hexagons and octagons, and there are many styles such as hanging mountains with one eaves and leaning against mountains with two eaves. On the floor, roof, wing corner, cornice board and other eye-catching parts, especially between the first and third eaves, color plastic paintings are made of production and life scenes and various mascots with national characteristics.

Located in the center of Dong Village, Drum Tower is a place for gathering, discussion, rest and entertainment of all ethnic groups, and other buildings radiate around. Generally, a village has a drum tower, and some Dong villages have a drum tower surname, forming a "drum tower group". There are many Drum Towers in Xiaohuangdong Village, one of which is very old, with humorous colorful sculptures and vivid painted patterns. Drum tower is divided into three parts: pavilion bottom, tower body and pavilion top. The tower has nine floors. On the cornice of the second floor of the tower, a pair of Dong men and women painted sculptures stand, and the next floor is a golden pheasant painted sculpture. Above the golden pheasant, the cornices on the sixth to ninth floors are three "little monkeys" connected end to end, which reminds people of the story of "fishing for the moon in water". There is a horizontal plaque on the door frame at the bottom of the pavilion, with the words "Song and Dance unchanged" written on it, indicating the attitude of Dong village in Xiao Huang towards Dong songs.

Dongxiang Yufeng bridge

Besides the Drum Tower, Yufeng Bridge is another striking landscape in Dong Village architecture. The wind and rain bridge is similar to a promenade. The bridge consists of beams, corridors and pavilions. There is a long corridor on the bridge deck, and benches are installed on the corridor for pedestrians to rest and shelter from the wind and rain, hence the name "Wind and Rain Bridge". Many wind and rain bridges are painted with various patterns, also called "Flower Bridge".

Yufeng Bridge is exquisitely structured, the piers are mostly large bluestone, and the bridge is made of pure wood structure, with Chinese fir crossing straight sleeves and eye holes connected. Precise and unique structure, no nails. The pavilion is paved with blue tiles and the deck is paved with Chinese fir. The pillars, railings and beams on both sides of the corridor are decorated with myths, legends, historical stories and pictures that reflect the life scenes and good wishes of the Dong people.

Miao people worship fir trees, which occupy an unusual position in the hearts of Dong villagers. They think that after the fir tree is cut down, it can still send out a number of buds and continue to grow and develop, symbolizing endless life. Drum Tower is made of Chinese fir, which looks like ancient Chinese fir. Huaqiao is also erected with Chinese fir, but the difference is that the former is standing and the latter is lying, forming a pattern of "Drum Tower stands and Huaqiao lies". Many flower bridges have pavilions on the promenade. From a distance, they stand vertically and horizontally, just like standing and lying big fir trees. ?
