Phnom Penh Trench

In the 1980s and 1990s, people called the Jin Dynasty military defense project located in Genghis Khan Town, Zhalantun City, Inner Mongolia the Phnom Penh Trench. Phnom Penh Moat is also called the Golden Great Wall. In short, it has different names in different historical periods. Some people once called it Phnom Penh Fort, moat, etc. In history, it was called Taizhou Bien Moat or Changchun Border Fort. Some historical records call it Genghis Khan's border wall (border fort, border trench). It is conceivable that the construction of the Great Wall of China, a famous military defense project in the Jin Dynasty, has attracted many knowledgeable people to explore and be fascinated by it. The Jin Great Wall has been excavated and verified by domestic archaeological experts many times, but it is considered an important military defense project in the Jin Dynasty. The reason for its construction is that at that time, there was a Jurchen tribe in the Songhua River Basin in Heilongjiang Province. This Jurchen tribe lived in the Songhua River Basin with forests, grasslands, and fields. Here they could hunt, livestock, and Can farm. The climate is mild, the soil is fertile, the water is abundant, and the grass is of high quality, making it the most suitable place to live. Due to favorable weather conditions, favorable geographical location, and harmonious relationships, the Jurchen tribe gradually became stronger. In 1115 AD, they established their capital in Acheng, Heilongjiang Province, called "Huining", and their country was known as Jin.

In 1121 AD, the rise of Mongolia, which later became the Yuan Dynasty, launched a full-scale war against the already rising Jin Dynasty, and sent troops many times to attack the Jin Dynasty. In order to resist foreign invasion, the Jin Dynasty organized manpower to build "border trench" military defense projects. At that time, people called the defense project "boundary trench". This "boundary trench" was started in 1138 AD (Xizong) during the reign of Jin Tianjuan, and by 1198 It took 60 years to complete.

The eastern end of Phnom Penh Hao Northeast Road starts from 7 Jiazi on the west bank of the Nen River, 8 kilometers north of Nilji, Molidawa Daur Autonomous Banner, and extends from the southwest into Arong Banner, and then enters Xiangyangyu Township from Arong Banner. Dahewan Town, Zhalantun City, connects the four townships and four towns of Zhalantun City, with a total length of 140 kilometers in Zhalantun City, and enters the Xing'an League Zalaite Banner 75 kilometers south of Haduohe Township. It extends to the Hetao in western Inner Mongolia, with a total length of more than 5,000 kilometers. Now, the Golden Great Wall has become the dividing line between Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Heilongjiang Province.

This section of the "boundary trench" in Zhalantun City is the starting point of the eastern end of the Jin Great Wall. They are all single walls and single trenches. Most of the city walls are buried in the sand and grass. The ruins are generally 2 meters high. meters, with a height of about 8 meters. There are trenches 15-20 meters outside the wall, ranging from 2-6 meters wide and 3-4 meters deep. There is a fort every 10 kilometers or so inside the wall. It is built with rammed earth slabs, with a circumference of 180 meters, and is square in shape, resembling a city outline (the main building no longer exists). There are two doors on the folded horse face (arrow stack), and the layout is roughly the same.

The Rongbao ruins of the Jin Great Wall, 10 kilometers south of Genghis Khan Town in Zhalantun City, are well preserved and its scale outline is vaguely visible. Several Jin Dynasty pottery fragments, arrowheads and other cultural relics have been unearthed here. On June 25, 2001, the State Council listed the entire Golden Great Wall as a national key cultural relic protection unit. Now, only this section of the Golden Great Wall in Genghis Khan Town, Zhalantun City is best preserved and is suitable for sightseeing.
