Do I need a transit visa to transfer in Japan?

Some are visa-free, while others need transit visas. Transit visas for passengers on international flights are also called "transit visas" and are issued by the country where the transit terminal is located. Tourists who stay for less than 24 hours or a certain period of time and do not leave the airport and directly transfer to a third country may not apply for a transit visa. However, there are also transit countries that require tourists to hold visas from this country, or tourists who want to leave the airport to visit this city must apply for transit visas, for example, in Britain, Canada and Australia.

What are the transit visa requirements for ordinary transit countries?

1, Singapore: In theory, you don't need to apply for a transit visa if you don't enter the country.

Theoretically, Singapore does not need to apply for a transit visa if it does not enter the country. Holders of valid visas from developed countries (Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Britain, the United States, Germany and Switzerland) can enjoy the 96-hour visa-free transit facility (VFTF) in Singapore: they can leave the country within 96 hours and transfer to other countries or fly to Singapore for transfer.

But there is a special situation, that is, if you take a low-cost airline, and the special terminal used by the low-cost airline does not have a special counter for connecting flight, you need to go to the terminal of the ordinary airline for connecting flight after entering the country. However, some low-cost airlines can now buy connecting services without applying for transit visas.

The ten low-cost airlines that need transit visas are: AirAsia, Indonesian AirAsia, Jetstar AirAsia, Lion Air, Thai AirAsia, Air India Express, Cebu Pacific Airlines, Firefly Airlines, Scoot Airlines and Tiger Airways Xinfeng.

2. Japan: It depends.

According to Japanese regulations, passengers transfer at Japan International Airport with a valid joint ticket. If they don't need to stay overnight, they don't need to apply for transit visas or other types of entry visas. If you need to stay overnight, it depends on whether the airport is open 24 hours a day to decide whether you need to apply for an entry/transit visa. The only airports in Japan that are open 24 hours a day are Haneda Airport in Tokyo and Kansai Airport in Osaka. Therefore, if the airport is not open 24 hours a day, you must stay overnight, enter Japan, and apply for a transit visa.

3. South Korea: Conditional visa-free transit.

The conditions for visa-free entry to South Korea are relatively simple: holders of Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Romania, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Malta, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Iceland, Ireland, Estonia, Britain, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Portugal, Poland, France and Finland. If the above conditions cannot be met, you need to prepare a visa in advance.

4. United States: transit signs are needed.

If you want to transfer to other countries via the United States, you need to apply for a transit visa (Class C visa) or a tourist visa (B2 visa) regardless of whether you enter the country or not.

5. Canada: Conditionally exempt from transit visas.

Generally speaking, more than half of Canada's transit destinations are the United States, so I will mainly explain the transit to the United States through the Canadian airport. There is no need to apply for a transit visa when all the following conditions are met:

(1) Hold a valid China passport;

(2) Holding a valid US visa;

(3) Take flights of Air Canada, Jazz Canada, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Philippine Airlines and China International Airlines;

(4) Transfer from Vancouver International Airport in Canada or Toronto Pearson International Airport 1 Terminal;

(5) It must depart from Beijing, Hongkong, China, China, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang, Harbin, Manila and China, and fly directly to Canada.

6. Australia: Transit signs are required.

Even at the same airport and on the same plane, you have to apply for a transit visa. The visa is valid for no more than 72 hours.

Legal basis:

Article 9 of the Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) on Exit and Entry Administration, China citizens shall apply for passports or other travel documents when leaving or entering the country.

China citizens who want to go to other countries or regions also need to obtain visas or other entry permits. However, unless the China government has signed visa exemption agreements with other governments or the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provide otherwise.

China citizens who leave or enter the country as seafarers and work on foreign ships shall apply for a seaman's certificate according to law.
