Tourist attractions in Dakar

Three kilometers southeast of Dakar, the capital of Senegal, there is an island 9 meters long from north to south and 3 meters wide from east to west. This is the world-famous tourist island-Gore Island. Located in the south of cap vert Peninsula, Senegal, it is one of the earliest European colonies in West Africa. The area is only 36 hectares (88 acres). It has been occupied by Portugal and France since the mid-15th century. Used to be a stronghold of the slave trade in the Atlantic. Decline with the rise of St. Louis and Dhaka. The island has beautiful scenery, museums and ruins of ancient castles, and is a tourist attraction.

Golay Island, solidified by molten black basalt, looks like a black pearl embedded in the blue sea. It has a platform with a fortress at its southern end and a fort (Esteire fortress) at its northern end. There is a small pier on the island for small boats to dock in Dakar. On both sides of the streets with sandy roads, red ochre dilapidated houses stand side by side. The main buildings on the island also include a mosque, a church and one or two colonial administration buildings. Compared with other tourist attractions in the world, Africans have frequented the island since the Neolithic Age, and the basalt tools found on the island are the same as those found on Cape Manuel and Madeira Islands.
