Extended information:
The terrain of Jiangxi Province is mainly hills and mountains in the south of the Yangtze River; basins and valleys are widely distributed, with some plains. In terms of geology and geomorphology, the geological structure is bounded by the Jinjiang-Xinjiang line, with the Yangtze quasi-platform Jiangnan platform uplift in the north and the South China fold system in the south.
The late Caledonian movement at the end of the Silurian period merged the two, and was later transformed by the Indosinian, Yanshanian and Himalayan movements many times, forming a series of northeast-southwest tectonic belts. A large amount of granite was intruded, and red clastic rock layers from the Cretaceous to the Paleogene were deposited in the basin, interspersed with gypsum and rock salt deposits;
A rift basin centered on Poyang Lake was formed in the northern area , there are Quaternary laterite accumulations in the piedmont area on the edge of the basin. This is the geological basis that causes the province's terrain to tilt northward.
