Introduction to attractions
According to the "Wuwei Prefecture Chronicles" of the Qing Dynasty: "There is an ancient pagoda in the south of Tishui, Taiping Township. In the first year of Xianping in the Song Dynasty (998 AD), a monk ascended it to the public. In the early Northern Song Dynasty, Buddhism flourished in Wuwei County and there were many monks, so a temple was built near Teshui (now Xihe), called Nantai Temple, and later in Nantai Temple. A pagoda was built, which is now the Golden Pagoda, and gradually formed a large-scale Buddhist architectural complex. After the changes of the times and the destruction of the war, the Nantai Temple and the Golden Pagoda also went from rise to decline, and in the end only the ancient pagoda remained. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, renovations have been carried out in Hongwu, Longqing, Wanli, Kangxi, Qianlong and other years, so that the Golden Tower can survive. Today, the Golden Pagoda is the oldest existing ancient pagoda building in Anhui Province.
The Golden Tower is a typical hexagonal imitation wood pavilion-style brick tower. The brackets are all made of mandarin ducks. It has nine floors, a width of 3.4 meters, and a height of about 35 meters. Its structural shape is dignified and stable, solemn and upright. It is The perfect combination of Indian pagoda art and ancient Chinese architecture is of high value to the study of ancient Chinese Buddhist architecture.
The ancient pagodas in our country are generally named after temples, or after information such as shape, age, texture, place name, location, etc. However, Wuwei's Golden Pagoda has a unique name. According to the "Historic Sites" in Volume 4 of "Wuwei Prefecture Chronicles": "The Golden City was located fifteen miles north of the prefecture. Its ruins are from Nantai Temple to Jijia Gate. There is a pagoda in the temple, a gate near the temple, and a nunnery in front of the gate. They are all named after gold. The origin of the city cannot be ascertained. "There are also place names such as Huanghuangzha, Huanghuang'an, and Huanghuangcheng in history. There has always been a saying in the area that "there is three gold in ten miles, and the phoenix chases the unicorn." Therefore, this is also the reason why the Golden Tower is named after "Gold".
In 1981, the Golden Tower was listed as a provincial key cultural relic protection unit by Anhui Province, and the tower was comprehensively surveyed, mapped, and renovated. Now the Golden Tower has been completely renovated and has become an important cultural relic and tourist attraction. In 2013, the Wuwei Golden Tower was included in the seventh batch of national key cultural relics lists announced by the State Council, becoming a national key cultural relics protection unit.
To this day, the Golden Tower stands majestically on the banks of the West River. At night, when the lights in the tower are lit, a golden pagoda looks like a treasure, exuding alluring charm. The Golden Pagoda at this moment is worthy of its name. The ancient pagoda is as majestic as a white-haired elder. Standing under the tower, the mottled marks on the tower body come into view. Looking up, the top of the tower seems to reach straight to the sky, and you can feel the vicissitudes of the past.
