The origin of Shizuishan

Shizuishan also has a name called "Shizuishan". This name comes from a folk legend and is based on Shizuishan. A vivid interpretation of the terrain. The historical records of Shizuizi can be found in the historical data of the first year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1723). At that time, the Qing government decided to "move the market entrance to Shizui" to facilitate the mutual market transactions between Mongolia and Han.

Around the fourth year of Yongzheng (1726), with the excavation of Huinong Canal, the increasing development of ethnic trade and the establishment of "Shikou", the population in Shizuishan area gradually increased and settlements were formed, and the mountain name was borrowed. It is still used as a place name.

In March 1960, Shizuishan City was established. In February 1972, Yinbei Region was established, with the city and region stationed in Shizuishan. In November 1975, the Yinbei area was abolished and the municipal government moved to Dawukou. The place name "Shizuishan" was also moved with the municipal administration.

The word "mouth" in Shizuishan was not standardized for a period of time, and many people remember it as "Shizuishan". The historical records of the Ming and Qing dynasties all use the word "zui". "Zui" and "zui" are both used together for the first time in "Shuofang Dao Zhi of the Republic of China". The three batches of Chinese character simplification plans announced by the State Council after liberation did not simplify the character "mouth".

In 1959, Ningxia used the irregular wording "Shizuishan" in its report to the State Council for the establishment of Shizuishan City. In 1960, the State Council continued to use "Shizuishan" as the name in its decision to establish the city. This is the name of the city, so "Shizuishan" and "Shizuishan" were once used together in newspapers and periodicals.

Until 1981, the Shizuishan City Place Names Committee, based on the historical origin of the city name, and with the consent of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Place Names Committee, officially designated "Shizuishan" as the standardized writing of the city name.
