Fuxian Lake Travel Guide
Fuxian Lake is located in Chengjiang City, Yunnan Province, 52 kilometers away from Kunming, with an altitude of 1722.5 meters. It is the largest lake in China and the largest plateau deep-water lake in China. Its water storage capacity is equivalent to 15 Dianchi Lake and 6 Erhai Lake. It is also the clearest and cleanest lake in Yunnan. The water quality reaches Class I, which means that it can be directly drunk.
Today, Fuxian Lake is a scenic spot in Yunnan. In order to ensure the water quality, tourists have been forbidden to swim in the water, but in the past, it used to be a sacred place for many diving enthusiasts. Geng Wei, who grew up in Fuxian Lake, is a professional diver. During a diving trip, he found an ancient building site underwater, which reminded him of a mysterious local legend that there was an ancient city at the bottom of Fuxian Lake.
Later, Geng Wei dived into the bottom of the lake many times and took a lot of photos, which were published in Yunnan Spring City Evening News, causing various speculations. Some people say that the underwater structure is a sacrificial platform, some people say it is a pier, and some people say it is an ancient city. Different opinions have also attracted the attention of CCTV and the archaeological team.
In order to solve this mystery, the China Underwater Archaeological Team came to Fuxian Lake to conduct a massive underwater archaeology. Using the submersible "Blue Whale" equipped with global positioning system and the most advanced sonar scanner, it carried four people into the waters where the site was located, which was broadcast live by CCTV.
The archaeological team conducted two underwater explorations and found a large area of stones, stone walls, steps, streets and mossy buildings. According to the divers in the submarine, there are countless bodies floating under Fuxian Lake, standing obliquely like a human bank. Men, women and children, drifting with the tide, look scary.
Some experts speculate that this site may be the capital of ancient Yunnan or the county seat of ancient Yuyuan Garden. Ancient Yunnan is one of the three most mysterious ancient countries in China. It appeared in the early Warring States period, existed in Yunnan history for about 500 years, and then mysteriously disappeared in the early Western Han Dynasty.
As for Cheng Yuyuan, according to historical records, Chengjiang was named Yuyuan County in the Western Han Dynasty in 106 BC. Only later, Grain Rain County suddenly disappeared. There is no historical record since then. No one knows when and how it disappeared. But according to local folklore, there is an ancient city under Fuxian Lake. The ancient city of Yuyuan Garden and its people have sunk to the bottom of the lake.
Later, it was found at the bottom of the lake that the site was several times larger than the average county town in Han Dynasty, and the building structure was mainly stone, while the building in Cheng Yuyuan should be wooden, so some experts speculated that it should be the ancient capital of Yunnan, not Cheng Yuyuan.
However, some experts questioned that the ancient patterns in Yunnan were mostly animal shapes such as snake heads, monkey heads and frogs, while the symbols of "0" and "1", a "face pattern", seven regularly arranged caves and a pattern symbolizing the sun were found at the bottom of Fuxian Lake, which looked more primitive and ancient.
Therefore, whether the ancient city at the bottom of Fuxian Lake is Yuyuan City, the capital of ancient Yunnan, or an ancient city with a longer history is still inconclusive due to the lack of historical materials.
However, this ancient underwater city has added a lot of mystery to Fuxian Lake. It is said that when the weather is fine, you can see the ruins of the ancient city from a height, and the visibility of Fuxian Lake water is very high.
Today, Fuxian Lake is the back garden of Kunming. Compared with Erhai Lake and Lugu Lake where tourists are full, Fuxian Lake is quieter. Most of the tourists who come here are Yunnan natives around Kunming and Chengjiang.
