I want to go to Dunhuang! Self-guided tour from Quanzhou (Xiamen) to Dunhuang. Please tell me about the transportation, food and accommodation arrangements and approximate cost during the itinerary, s
The road from Quanzhou to Dunhuang is very long, and there is no direct train. It is recommended to transfer in Xi'an or Zhengzhou.
The northwest is relatively desolate, and the journey time generally exceeds the time spent at the scenic spots. It’s not easy to go to the northwest so far away. Don’t just go to Dunhuang. You should stop by important nearby places along the way.
I will give you an itinerary suggestion, which is the route I just took last year, for reference:
1. Take a train or plane from Quanzhou to Xi'an, and spend a few days in Xi'an: Terracotta Warriors, Qianling Mausoleum, Famen Temple, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Xi'an City Wall, Forest of Steles, etc. You can usually visit Xi'an for three or four days.
2. The most suitable time is to take K591 in Xi'an, and it is the starting station. Drive at 11 o'clock and arrive at Jiayuguan Station at 5 o'clock the next morning.
3. Another route is to take the high-speed train from Quanzhou to Hangzhou and change to the K594 train to Jiayuguan. From Quanzhou to Hangzhou, we can't catch the train to Northwest China that day, so we have to stay one night.
4. There is still some distance from Jiayuguan Railway Station to Jiayuguan, and the scenic spot opens relatively late. You can have breakfast in the city first. Jiayuguan has a lot of northwest-style snacks. There is also a special snack city with many things and good hygiene. It is difficult to find such a complete range in other cities.
5. Arrive at Jiayuguan Scenic Area around 8 o'clock. Jiayuguan is actually an ancient city, and the place inside is not small. It takes about 3 hours to walk around carefully and take photos.
5. Leave Jiayuguan around noon and take a bus to Dunhuang.
6. There are 4 trains from Jiayuguan to Dunhuang, all in the early morning. It is best to go by car, the journey time is about 4 hours.
7. Taking a bus from Jiayuguan to Dunhuang is shocking: there are thousands of miles of Gobi along the way. A Taiwanese writer once said that the Gobi Desert of ten miles is desolate, but the Gobi Desert of thousands miles is majestic and spectacular! Traveling by car will give you an unforgettable experience.
8. There is a place called Guazhou between Jiayuguan and Dunhuang. It is a small but very famous place. It used to be a post station on the Silk Road. Why not come down and stay for a night to experience a different feeling. The fruits there are very sweet, buy more and try them.
9. Dunhuang has three programs: Mingsha Mountain, Mogao Grottoes, and song and dance programs. Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Moon Spring are in the desert. You can buy tickets and rent camels to go there. It is recommended to go in the morning because the sun is too hot in the afternoon. Plan to go to Mogao Grottoes in the afternoon. Watch a cabaret show in the city at night.
10. If you are still not satisfied, you can continue westward from Dunhuang and take the 10pm train to Turpan in Xinjiang before dawn. In addition to the Flame Mountain and Grape Valley in Turpan, Jiaohe Ancient City is the most worth visiting. The Old City of Jiaohe is a city that was abandoned thousands of years ago. It still retains its ruins. There are few tourists and the vicissitudes of the scenery are magnificent. It is very shocking!
11. Precautions: The weather in the northwest is dry, windy and sandy, and the light is strong. Sunglasses, hats, and gauze (to cover your nose and ears when the wind blows) must be prepared. Bring an eye drop bottle with some saline solution and drop a few drops on your nose if it feels dry. In the northwest, never leave the scenic area and enter the desert and Gobi alone.
