The Tropical Botanical Garden is a self-guided tour, which takes about 1.5 hours. The whole journey is a loop of about 1.6 kilometers. This living plant museum attracts scientists, botanists, gardeners, photographers and nature lovers from around the world. The collection of tropical plants in the park is very international, with more than 2,000 species. The park has representative plants belonging to 750 genera and 125 families.

This 40-acre valley is like a natural greenhouse, protected by trade winds and fertile volcanic soil. Through the gardens, nature trails meander into real rainforest, past bubbling streams and several beautiful waterfalls. There are exciting canyon scenery along the rugged Pacific coastline.

The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) scientific and educational nonprofit project. Its mission is to serve as a nature reserve, a biological seed bank, and a learning center for tropical plants and tree species. The garden is dedicated to collecting and displaying the world's tropical plants and educating people about the difficulties facing the world's tropical rainforests. At a time when tropical rainforests are disappearing at an alarming rate, what the park does is preserve as many species as possible for the benefit of future generations.

Punaluu Beach Park

Time: All day

Ticket: None

Address: Route 11, Hawaii Island 96777

Punalu Beach Park is located between Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the town of Nalehu, Hawaii. The Punalu Black Beach in the park is one of the best black sand beaches in Hawaii. There are plenty of coconut trees on the beach, and you might be able to spot a giant Hawaiian green sea turtle (honu) sunbathing on the beach. Don't touch these protected turtles, and don't take away the black sand from the beach, tempting as it may be. Although this beach is not suitable for swimming, it is equipped with picnic areas and restrooms, so you can have lunch here while experiencing the unique feel of the black sand.
