Why do Japanese people like to sleep underground rather than in beds?
Why do Japanese people like to sleep on the "floor" instead of on big beds? Is it shockproof? In recent years, Japan’s unique culture has made us feel particularly novel. We long to go to other unfamiliar environments and see new and different stories. The number of people traveling to Japan every year can reach more than 7 million. Therefore, when we travel to Japan, we often meet Chinese people and greet them habitually abroad. However, during my stay in Japan, I discovered something new, especially their Mud Festival or Sun Festival. You will see thousands of people playing in the streets to relieve stress.
But the pace of life in Tokyo, Japan is very fast. Many boys don't go home at night. However, the weirdest thing is that when we go backpacking in Japan, we always find that Japanese people like to sleep underground rather than in beds. why is that? Although it is well known that Japan is a country with frequent earthquake disasters and earthquakes occur every day. If you sleep on the ground, you can increase your chances of escape, but the owner of the house still knows that the main reason is simple. The first explanation is the same as what we understand, which is to prevent earthquake disasters, because Japan has about 10,000 earthquakes every year, an average of about 40 times a day. Sleeping on the floor can really make the sleeper feel that there is a certain chance of escape. .
The second reason is related to Japanese traditional customs. In traditional Japanese belief, sleeping on the floor is good for your health. Sleeping on the floor for a long time can help bone development to a certain extent. However, for someone like me who is used to sleeping on a mattress, suddenly traveling to Japan to sleep on the floor is still a bit unfamiliar. The third one I think is the most reasonable, because sleeping on the ground can effectively save space, especially for young people who have more things and don’t have much housing space. If you push a large bed, it will take up a lot of space.
If you sleep on the floor, you can tidy up after waking up during the day, which can save a lot of space. However, there are not many local proverbs, but in my opinion, they are all required by living habits. As before, many people don't have big, soft beds. Most of them slept on wooden beds, but they felt very comfortable even then. So when we feel weird, they're probably used to it.
