What kind of visa is the American J visa?
1. What is a J visa?
The U.S. government warmly welcomes foreign citizens to participate in exchange and visit programs in the United States. Applicants must be accepted by the official program organizer in the United States before they can apply for an exchange visiting scholar visa. Once accepted, American educational institutions or project organizers will provide the applicant with the approval documents needed to apply for a visa.
The J visa corresponding to the exchange of visiting scholars program aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and skills between people in the fields of education, art and science. Participants include students from universities, middle schools and primary schools; Persons who have participated in on-the-job training in companies, institutions and offices; Teachers in primary schools, middle schools and professional and technical schools; Professors who teach or engage in research in institutions of higher learning; A scholar specializing in research; Persons who go to medical or related institutions for professional training; And international visiting scholars who go to the United States to engage in the following activities: travel, observation, consultation, research, training, sharing or demonstrating professional knowledge/skills, and participating in organized non-governmental exchange projects. Second, how to apply for a J visa
When did you apply?
30-day rule: Anyone who has obtained a J-type exchange visitor visa should note that the regulations of the US Department of Homeland Security stipulate that all new exchange visitors are only allowed to enter the United States within 30 days before the plan listed on the DS-20 19 form takes effect. Visa holders who go to the United States before the prescribed time limit may be refused entry at the port of entry. Please consider this date carefully when you plan your trip to America. If the planned start date recorded on your DS-20 19 has expired, or you cannot arrive in the United States before this date, please ask your organizer to change this date in the SEVIS system.
Please note that the 30-day rule does not apply to exchange visiting scholars who continue to plan. Renewed visitors can apply for a new visa at any time, as long as they maintain their identity in the United States and their records in SEVIS system are valid. Continuing visitors can also enter the United States at any time before the next project begins.
