What are the customs in Anfu South Township?
According to relevant records, "Eating New", also known as "Taste New" and "Eating New Festival", is a traditional folk festival in Nanxiang, Anfu County, and the second largest festival in the local area after the Spring Festival. Among the traditional folk festivals in China, "Eating New Festival" is the only festival with no definite date, which is between "Little Summer" and "Big Summer" in the lunar calendar and matures with early rice. Due to the inconsistency of soil and water climate conditions in each village, the maturity of early rice often differs by one or several days, so "eating new things" in each village comes first and then comes. At present, the specific time of "eating new things" is basically decided by the local township government. At the same time, due to different regions and customs, the rituals of eating new foods are slightly different in different places, but the ritual procedures of offering sacrifices to Xingu, gods and ancestors and taking seats in the order of generations are almost the same. More importantly, all localities attach great importance to "eating new food". On the day of the festival, all the villagers who went out to work and do business rushed home for the New Year. The villagers carefully picked the full ears of rice, tied them into rice bundles, worshipped the local gods and ancestors, and then took their seats in turn according to their generations. The seats are mainly steamed pork with new rice and rice noodles, fresh and tender seasonal vegetables such as eggplant, pepper, cucumber, pumpkin and pod, as well as chicken, cliff, fish and meat. "Eating new things" can not only show farmers' incomparable joy in their hard work, but more importantly, it is a traditional custom to promote harmony and unity among relatives, friends and neighbors. It is a rare intangible cultural heritage of the county and has important reference value for studying the folk customs of the county.
"Eating new" means eating new rice for the first time when early rice is harvested. The festival lasts for one day, which is decided by the Zhou Hu Town Government according to the practice of Nanxiang, and is posted and announced. Every year around the first and middle days of July in the Gregorian calendar, all towns and villages in Nanxiang celebrate the "Eating New" Festival. In Anfu South Township, the "Eat New" Festival is as important and grand as the Spring Festival, commonly known as "Eat New Year's goods, don't tell the truth". On the Mid-Autumn Festival, there is also the custom of burning towers. Every Mid-Autumn Festival, young people and students will go around to pick up many broken tiles to build a tower that is more than one person high. Several children will knock on the village gong to donate straw to every household, and adults will surround it with straw and burn it on the top of the tower, saying that it is to burn Yuan Tatars. This activity will last for three nights. Every household will set off firecrackers when the moon comes out and put round food such as moon cakes and oranges (grapefruit) on the moon.
On the first day of the Spring Festival, children should wear new clothes. On this day, parents tell their children not to curse, not to curse. People in the same village will go to the villagers' home to pay New Year greetings, and they can't go out to visit relatives until the second day of the second year. On the seventh and eighth days of the Spring Festival, dragon lanterns (there used to be lion lanterns) were started. On the first day, the dragon lantern dance first went to the river at the entrance of the village to send water to the dragon, which means to worship the river god. Then for the Spring Festival, every household holds a dragon lantern dance. On the thirteenth day of the Spring Festival, the Dragon Lantern Dance ended. That night, the dragon lantern was released and quietly carried to the river that originally fed the dragon with water. Take the paper off the dragon and light it again, and the dragon lantern dance will be over. After eating Yuanxiao, the Spring Festival will be over.
