The scenic spots in Ganquan County include the former residence of Mao Zedong in Xiasiwan, Meishuiquan, the site of Qin Zhidao, Ganquan County Museum and the former site of the Central Shaanxi Special Committee. Ganquan is named after the spring water at the foot of the deep forest mountain, 5 kilometers southwest of the city, and is known as the beautiful hometown of water. There is a history in the Western Zhou Dynasty. Diaoyin County was established in the Qin Dynasty, Linzhen County was established in the early Northern Wei Dynasty, Fulu County was established in the first year of Tang Wude, and Ganquan County was established in the first year of Tianbao.

Yan 'an City is adjacent to the east, Zhidan County to the west, Ansai District to the north and Pi Fu County to the south. The county seat is 333 kilometers from Tongchuan to the provincial capital Xi in the south and 40 kilometers from Yan 'an in the north. The county is about 80 kilometers long from east to west and 50 kilometers wide from east to west.

Ganquan belongs to the hilly and gully region of the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi, and its landform is long from southeast to northwest and narrow from northeast to southwest. Luohe runs through Ganquan County from northwest to southeast. The terrain inclines from northwest to southeast, with an altitude of 950 ~1625m. Dunliang in the west is the highest point in Ganquan County, with an altitude of 1 625m, and Lanjiachuan River bed in the south is the lowest point, with an altitude of 950m.

The Luohe river basin is relatively flat, with a width of 500 ~ 1000m, accounting for about 10% of the total area of Ganquan county. In the rest of the vast areas, the hills and gullies on the loess beam are staggered, and the relative height difference is below 200 meters.

Ganquan county belongs to the semi-humid climate of continental monsoon on the plateau, with four distinct seasons: cold, warm, dry and wet. Warm and windy in spring, hot and rainy in summer, cool and humid in autumn, cold and rainy in winter, short in summer and long in winter.
