Zhalong is a famous precious waterfowl nature reserve in China, located in the lower reaches of Wuyuer River, 30 kilometers northwest of Qiqihar City. The main protected objects here are wild rare birds such as red-crowned cranes, which are known as natural paradise for birds and waterfowl.

Zhalong Nature Reserve covers an area of 40,000 square kilometers, with rivers criss-crossing, dotted with lakes and swamps, and well-maintained wetland ecology. Every April, May or August and September, about 200 or 300 kinds of wild rare birds gather here to hide the sun, which is the best season to visit this area. There is a direct bus to the protected area in Qiqihar city, with convenient transportation. The scope of the reserve is so large that it is impossible to go all over it. You only need to travel around the district to get a glimpse of the whole picture.

Zhalong Nature Reserve is famous for its cranes. There are 15 species of cranes in the world and 6 species in this area. They are red-crowned cranes, white-headed cranes, white-naped cranes, demoiselle cranes, white cranes and gray cranes. Red-crowned crane, also known as crane, is a very precious bird. There are more than 500 red-crowned cranes in this area, accounting for about a quarter of the total number of red-crowned cranes in the world. Therefore, it is not an exaggeration to call this area the hometown of red-crowned cranes. Besides cranes, there are also wild rare birds in this area, such as swans, cygnets, egrets, herons and storks. It is really a kingdom of wild rare birds.
