Ordos City, a municipality under the jurisdiction of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is located in the southwest of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, surrounded by the Yellow River in the northwest and east, adjacent to the ancient Great Wall in the south and adjacent to Shanxi, Shaanxi and Ningxia provinces. Ordos city governs seven banners and one district. "Ordos" is Mongolian, meaning "numerous palaces". East, north and west face Hohhot, Xinzhou, Baotou, Bayannaoer, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Alashan League across the river respectively. It borders Yulin City, Shaanxi Province in the south.
