Tickets are required for Congjiang Dong Village.
Address: 1,000 meters west of the intersection of Township Road 019 and National Road 321, Xiangshan District, Guilin City. Entering the village, the first thing that jumps into your eyes is a valley-shaped Dong village with more than 50 residential buildings lined up in rows. The smoke and fire of more than a hundred years have made some wooden pillars and boards shine brightly. The Lusheng and Drum Tower stands high in the village, with nine dense eaves and pointed reed roof style buildings. Then continue walking along the ancient post road, and you will come to Yashang Village, which is built on the ridge. From the bottom of the mountain, there are stilted buildings lined up along the mountain, one on top of another. To climb the ridge, you have to climb 108 steps along the bluestone slabs. This was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. They are all paved with bluestone slabs shaped by survey and construction. At that time, Zhuge Liang, the prime minister of Western Shu, captured Meng Huo seven times. This post road was once passed by; the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army held a historic "Channel Transfer of Troops" meeting through the passage, and the Red Army marched westward from there. Some of them also walked over the taro border on the bluestone slabs on this ancient post road. Entering Guizhou…. When we walked along the stone road to the foot of the mountain, we saw an ancient well under the well shed surrounded by bluestone slabs. The inside of the well was crystal clear, and the writings of the 50th year of Qianlong's reign were faintly visible on a stone slab next to it. For hundreds of years, it is this ancient well that has nourished generations of taro villagers. The Dong people still retain a relatively primitive self-sufficient farming life. They are hospitable and very polite to others. When you walk into a Dong home, whether you know them or not, they always greet the guests with a smile and call you to come in. During festivals or major events in the village, people spontaneously build bridges, mend roads, and clean the drum towers, pavilions, and roads in the village. The flavored food here is very distinctive. The staple food is rice, as well as oil tea, bitter wine, dong cake, etc. Pickled and sour dishes are the best dishes for entertaining guests, as well as crisp and delicious pickled cucumbers and pickled beans. Folklore experts believe that Dong village construction sites, layout of buildings, planning of the coordination of the village with the surrounding environment, people's clothing, food, housing, transportation, and sacrifices are all the application of traditional Kanyu theory in the real life of Dong ethnic areas. Various buildings in the village are adapted to local conditions and are arranged according to the mountain topography and wind and water. The natural scenery and man-made creations form a trinity of heaven, earth and people, which fully demonstrates the simplicity, honesty and intelligence of the Dong people. The architecture of the Taro Dong Village belongs to the typical ridge and valley architectural patterns of the Dong Village in the mountains and valleys. Since the buildings in the village contain all the contents of Dong architecture, experts from the China Folk Residence Research Association call it the "physical museum" of Dong architecture. The Taro Dong Village has become a hot spot for ethnic customs and red tourism in our county.
