Origin

Wulao Peak

Wulao Peak, formerly known as Wulao Mountain, is located in Yuxiang. Zhang Sengjian of the Jin Dynasty said in "Xunyang Ji": "(Lushan) Wulao Peak is hidden in the sky, and the situation is like Wulao Mountain in Yuxiang County, Hezhong Prefecture." In the "Yuxiang County Chronicle", there is "Wulao Mountain" , located fifteen miles south of the county, is also the general name of Yuzhu and Taiyi peaks. "The Wulao Mountain is derived from the name of the Wulao in Fuxi's "He Tu" and "Luo Shu" written in ancient times. Fuxi was one of the Five Emperors in ancient times. He invented and created a diagram and hexagram theory that revealed the mutual transformation of heaven and earth, which is called "River Map" and "Luoshu". The national I Ching theory was promoted and developed on the basis of "He Tu" and "Luo Shu". There is about three thousand years of history between "He Tu", "Luo Shu" and "Book of Changes". This period should be the period of the creation and spread of the Yixue culture. In the process of this creation and spread, a multi-person system was formed in ancient times. It is passed down from generation to generation, which is the Five Elders system. The reason why the Five Elders system is passed down from generation to generation should be that the ancients wanted to prevent the complete theoretical teachings of "He Tu" and "Luo Shu" from being lost or misrepresented in single transmissions, and also to continue to study and improve them in practice and application, and to promote them. . Why should we use the five-character form? This is actually closely related to the connotation of "He Tu" and "Luo Shu". There is an ancient saying that "the sky is numbered five, the earth is numbered one, and the five elements are in harmony with each other." "The original principle of the five elements is to create and restrain themselves." The setting of the heavenly stems and earthly branches begins with the opportunity for growth and restraint, and the opportunity for birth and restraint begins with The Five Elements, the theory of the Five Elements, began with "He Tu" and "Luo Shu". "He Tu" shows the left-hand direction of the formation of the phase, and the "Luo Book" of the "Luo Book" shows the right-side rotation of the phase and the opposition. The formation and restraint are the establishment. The Five Elements are in place, sixty-four The rise and fall of the hexagram and return to travel are also determined by this. Zhu Xi's "Yixue Enlightenment" said: ""The River Picture" uses the five numbers to unify five percent of the numbers, and they are all in the same place, revealing them all to show people how to understand them, which is the body of numbers. "The Book of Luo" uses the five odd numbers The four even numbers are unified, and each one lives in its own place, covering the yang to unify the yin and causing its changes. "The numbers in "He Tu" and "Luo Shu" both use five as the middle. From the Three Emperors to the Five Emperors, through Xia, Shang and Zhou, about three thousand years, the "Hetu" and "Luoshu" have not been lost, and can be promoted. The secret lies in the Five Elders system being passed down from generation to generation. The origin of Wulao Mountain is precisely because Wulao lived in seclusion with pictures, studied the Bible and preached, and often lived in seclusion in Wulao Mountain. Therefore, Wulao Mountain should also be the ancient "Dao" mountain or "Gua" mountain. Its implications have been profound and vast since ancient times.

Historical records

According to historical records, as early as the Jin Dynasty Zhang Sengjian's "Xunyang Ji" there is "Wulao Peak is hidden in the sky, and its situation is like the Hezhong Mansion" Yuxiang County Wulaoshan" records. The "Shui Jing Zhu" written by Li Daoyuan of the Northern Wei Dynasty has a description of "the strange peak rises up in the clouds, the solitary peak rises, covers the surface of the springs, the peaks are shaded by green cypresses, and the clear springs fill the neck." The literati of the past dynasties have written articles and poems to praise and describe it. For example, the inscription states that "the beautiful Tiao Mountain is the best in the Three Jin Dynasties, and the rugged and beautiful Wulao Peak is the most beautiful mountain in the Three Jin Dynasties." It is known as the first scenic spot in the Three Jin Dynasties. According to the investigation, among the ancient architectural sites on the mountain, there are stone Buddha statues from the Southern and Northern Dynasties, cord-patterned bricks from the Tang Dynasty, square tiles from the Song Dynasty, colored sculpture figures from the Ming Dynasty, and a large number of stone inscriptions, indicating that Wufeng Mountain has long been visited by tourists in ancient times. It is a place where Buddhists and Taoists practice, meditate and live. Taoism ranks it as the "52nd Blessed Land".

Cultural Relics

According to the existing stone tablets, the earliest buildings were seen in the Northern Zhou Dynasty, namely the Buddhist temples Yuantong Temple and Guanyin Pavilion built in Xizhaizi. Judging from the ruins of ancient buildings, thin rope pattern bricks from the Tang Dynasty and patterned square bricks from the Song Dynasty can be seen everywhere. There are seven major buildings on the top of Yuzhu Peak: Nantianmen, Black Tiger Spirit Palace, White Scholars Hall, Suffering Bodhisattva Hall, Patriarch Temple, Qianzi Hall, etc. There are also hundreds of wood carvings from the Ming Dynasty and more than 20 inscriptions from temples built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, recording the grand occasion of the Chaoshan Temple Fair. There are 5 stone sculptures from the Southern and Northern Dynasties in Leigong Cave under West Jinping Peak, and 3 colorful clay sculptures from Ming Dynasty in Yaoshi Cave at East Jinping Peak. There are 64 nunneries, temples, temples and palaces on the entire peak, and dozens of steles, all of which are of high artistic achievement and archaeological value. Judging from the numerous steles, Wulaofeng has recorded thousands of years of prosperity, and there are many folklore and anecdotes. In the Song Dynasty, Yang Ye stationed troops here to practice martial arts, Sun Feihu, who surrounded Pujiu Temple, camped here, and Zhang Guo, one of the Eight Immortals of Taoism, set up camp here. There are many legendary anecdotes about Lao, Lu Dongbin and other figures, which add to the mystery of Wufeng Mountain. Every year from the first to the fifteenth day of July is the Chaofeng Temple Fair, where tens of thousands of merchants and officials from the north and south gather. The extant woodcuts of the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty, "Tiaoshan Jade Pillar Qingfeng Picture" and "New Painting of the Wulaofeng Scenic Spots in Southwest Yuxiang County, Shanxi" printed in the early Republic of China, both vividly depict the prosperity at that time. Until the Japanese invasion, there were more than 40 teahouses and restaurants opened along the way from Xiguan in Yuxiang at the foot of the mountain to the top of Yuzhu Peak on the mountain. Temples and opera houses in Yamaguchi took turns to perform performances, lingering in the air, and folk entertainment activities and gods-welcoming games were very lively. After that, due to various reasons, Wulaofeng gradually declined and became less known.

Historical development

Wang Yun, a poet who became an official in Jiashan in the early Yuan Dynasty, once wrote a poem called "Song of the Five Old Men". The poem begins with two "five old peaks"

The sentence is: "Go up to the clouds on the Wulao Peak at dawn, and fish for carp in the Wuxing Lake at night." The scenery of the lakes and mountains is so beautiful and natural that it immediately attracts people to a big world that their hearts yearn for. Wulao Peak, originally called Wulao Mountain, is located nearly 10 kilometers south of the city of Guyuxiang County (now part of Yongji City) and belongs to the Zhongtiao Mountains. Because its geographical location is just across the Yellow River from Huashan Mountain in Xiyue Province in Shaanxi Province, people in the area at the junction of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan provinces have also called Wulaofeng "Donghua Mountain" since ancient times. Among the many famous historical and cultural mountains in Shanxi, Wulaofeng is a place worth introducing in terms of its long history of development, the magnificence of the scenery and the rich accumulation of traditional culture. Tracing back to its origins, Wulao Peak should have had quite a reputation from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Jin Dynasty. At least around the 10th century AD, in the so-called "Dongtian Blessed Land" list of Chinese Taoism, Zhongtiao Wulao Mountain actually already had its place. .

During the two Jin Dynasties, Zhang Sengjian wrote "Xunyang Ji", in which he said that "the Wulao Peak in Lushan Mountain in Jiangxi Province is hidden in the sky, and its shape is the Wulao Mountain in Yuxiang County, Hezhong." The Yuxiang County, Hezhong County here is today Yuxiang Town in Yongji City, Xunyang refers to Jiujiang City in Jiangxi Province at the foot of Mount Lu. Comparing the Wulao Peak in Lushan Mountain with the Wulao Mountain in Shanxi in the north, we can see that as early as about 1,600 years ago, when the Wulao Peak in Lushan Mountain first became famous, the Wulao Mountain in Yongji had already been named earlier. From ancient times to the present, many people have been interested in why Yongji Wulao Peak was named after "Wulao". Some people also compared the five main peaks of Wulao Peak with the so-called "Wu Lao". However, historical legends believe that "Yao ascended the first mountain to view Hezhu, and five old men flew into the Pleiades like meteors, so they named the mountain Wulao Mountain." It turns out that the west end of Zhongtiao Mountain is also called Shou Mountain. Legend has it that in ancient times, when Yao climbed Shou Mountain to observe the water flow of the Yellow River, he suddenly encountered five old people who turned into meteors and ascended to the sky, and entered the Pleiades constellation. Therefore, this mountain is known as the "Five Elders" name. It is both vivid and mysterious, but it still does not break out of the original Taoist immortal stereotype. All myths, of course, have their very bizarre aspects, but mythological plots like Yongji Wulaofeng should not be produced too late. The Wulaofeng in Lushan Mountain in Jiangxi Province does not have such a myth, but is only named based on the shape of the combination of peaks. Reform and opening up restored vitality to Wulaofeng. It was listed as a key tourism development project for the county, prefecture and province. In 1994, it was approved as a national scenic spot.

Taoist Blessed Land

As the sixth blessed place among the 72 blessed places of Chinese Taoism, Yongji Wulaofeng is said to have been the place where Zhang Guo, one of the "Eight Immortals", rode a donkey upside down. The old missionary place. Volume 191 of the "Old Book of Tang" records: "I don't know who Zhang Guo is. Zetianshi hid in Zhongtiao Mountain, traveling between Fen and Jin. People at that time said that he had secret skills for many years. Since then, "It seems extremely impossible to live hundreds of years, so most people in the past believed that this was purely a false fairy tale made up by the ancients. However, "Old Book of Tang" and "New Book of Tang" both confirm that Zhang Li is a real person, saying that not only did he live in seclusion in Zhongtiao Mountain, but he also traveled to Beiyue Hengshan Mountain; in the 21st year of Kaiyuan of the Tang Dynasty (733 AD) In the year 1988) Wei Ji, the assassin of Hengzhou, met Zhang Guo in person, and Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty also personally sent Pei Hu, the general secretary, and Xu Qiao, the secretary general, to finally take Zhang Guo to Luoyang, the eastern capital at that time; not only the Tang Dynasty Xuanzong personally summoned Zhang Guo and even wanted to marry his imperial sister Princess Yuzhen to this Mr. Zhang Guo. However, Zhang Guolao was a god after all, and he refused to accept the emperor's favor, so he finally resigned and ran away. "Old Tang Book" says that for this reason, Xuanzong also built a Qixia Temple for Zhang Guo in his seclusion. History books say that Princess Yuzhen, the sister of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, advocated Taoism. I wonder if this has something to do with her unfinished marriage to Zhang Guo. There was originally a dragon well in Wulaofeng Mountain in Yongji. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty ordered Princess Yuzhen to throw a refined golden dragon model into the dragon well of Wulaofeng. Later, the dragon well was sealed as Yuzhen Cave. Yongji Wulaofeng was known as an authentic Taoist mountain before the Song and Jin Dynasties. However, after the Qing Dynasty and the early years of the Republic of China, Wulaofeng was no longer just a "blessed place" image of the traditional Chinese Taoist system. At this time, Buddhism, Confucianism, as well as common pan-theistic secular religious sects, almost all had a place in this famous mountain with a history of nearly two thousand years. According to the woodcut "New Painting of the Scenic Scenery of Wulao Peak in the Southwest of Yuxiang County, Shanxi" and some other book records, which were drawn by Ma Baoyang, a Taoist priest from Tongguan, Shaanxi Province shortly after the opening of the Nantong-Pu Railway in the 20th year of the Republic of China (AD 1931). Among the more famous cultural and religious landscapes in Fengshan, there are Wulao Temple, Luzu Palace, Shifo Temple, Wulong Palace, Guanyin Palace, Lingguan Temple, Tielou Mountain Temple, Qipan Mountain Temple, Sansheng Palace and Shanshen Temple. , Lingfeng Temple of the Five Immortals, etc. To use the original words engraved on the "Comprehensive Map of Wulaofeng Scenic Spots", it is "Anguan Temple Lu, there are sixty-four places up and down, big and small, with different statues. And the natural landscape of Wulaofeng at this time Then there are at least the so-called "thirty-six peaks of different sizes, twelve fairy caves, and nine springs." "Such as Yuzhu Peak, Zixiao Peak, Xiangyun Peak, Bijia Peak, Furong Peak, Yulian Peak, Wenming Peak, Bijian Peak, Yuxian Peak, Tianguan Peak, Xinfeng, Lingrengou, Ganlu Spring, Leigong Cave, Zi Weifeng, Lotus Terrace, Tianyi Peak, Huixian Cliff, Tianzhu Peak, etc. Among them, Yuzhu Peak is the most important scenic spot of Wulao Peak, and it is also the five main peaks (i.e. Yuzhu Peak, Dongjinping Peak). , Xijinping Peak, Qipan Peak and Taiyi Peak), with an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters. It is steep on all sides and reaches straight into the sky. In ancient times, climbers could only reach the peak with an iron chain. There are still many ancient architectural remains on Yuzhu Peak, such as Nantianmen, Black Tiger Hall, etc. Tang bricks and Song Dynasty tiles and stone tablets from past dynasties can be seen everywhere. The most surprising thing is that hundreds of ancient buildings were discovered here in the mid-1980s. There are wooden statues of gods made in the Ming Dynasty. On the east side of Wulaofeng Scenic Area, there is a large limestone cave called Yellow Snake Cave. Deep in the cave, there are still preserved the 20th day of December in the third year of Qi tomorrow (AD 1623). On the third day, a cave visitor named Hu Siyi left a poem, which includes the following contents: "I am the only one who has discovered the Yellow Snake Cave through the ages" and "The scene in the pot should be told to outsiders." It can be seen that few people visited this cave in ancient times

, standing upright on the seaside and stretching across the sky, it is of extraordinary majesty.

The five mountain tops are towering in the sky, sometimes surrounded by white clouds. From a distance, it looks like five old men with white hair and beards are looking up at the vast sea. This is one of the eight scenic spots in Xiamen, "Five Elders Lingxiao". The three characters "Wulaofeng" are engraved on the stone slope. On the huge stone facing the front, there is a very large character "Buddha" engraved, which is more than four meters high and three meters wide. Written by Zhenhui: On the left side of the "Buddha" rock, there are the tomb towers of Monk Jingfeng and Monk Xican donated by overseas Chinese; on the left side, across the stone path, there is the tomb tower of the monk who turned around; on the lower side of the tomb tower of the monk, There are the ruins of Puzhao Temple. Puzhao Temple was opened by Chen Qigang in the Tang Dynasty. Puzhao Temple was built with a cave as a room. There is a Tushituo courtyard halfway up the mountain, which has been renovated. Wulaofeng, Mount Lushan

Wulaofeng is located in the southeast of Mount Lushan. Because the top of the mountain is cut off by a pass, It is divided into five parallel peaks, looking up at the five old men sitting on the ground, so people collectively call these five peaks, which are originally one mountain, the "Five Old Peaks". It is rooted in Pohu Lake, with its peak touching the sky, with an altitude of 1,436 meters. Although its height is slightly lower than Dahanyang Peak, its majesty is even greater. It is the most majestic and dangerous scenery in the entire mountain. The five elders who studied scriptures and preached in ancient times were called gods or gods in history. In the astrological hexagrams, they were Qingling Shilao Tianzun, representing the east, wood, and black; Danling Zhenlao Tianzun, representing the south, fire. , red; Huangling Yuanlao Tianzun, represents China, earth, and yellow; Haolingsu Lao Tianzun, represents the west, gold, and white; Yilingxuan Lao Tianzun, represents the north, water, and blue. The Five Lao Temple is dedicated to the Five Lao Gods. From this, we know that Wulao Mountain is the hiding place where the Wulao took the "He Tu" and "Luo Shu" to store and teach scriptures, study hexagrams and practice, and preach the scriptures. It was also the place where the Yixue culture spread during its founding period. The cradle of Luo culture. This is the origin of Wulao Mountain. Observed from various angles, the mountains look different, some look like poets chanting, some look like warriors singing, some look like fisherman fishing, and some look like old monks sitting cross-legged. The most vivid view of Wulao Peak is from Haihui Temple in Xingzi County. Among the five peaks, the third peak is the most dangerous, with various shapes of strange rocks and majestic beauty; the fourth peak is the highest, with pine clouds on the top as curved as hornets, and five small peaks below, namely Lion Peak, Jinyin Peak, Shijian Peak, Lingyun Peak and From Flaggan Peak, there are Guanyin Cliff and Lion Cliff going down, and there is Qinglian Temple in the valley behind.
